Last Saturday, Laure completed 200 official games with Deportivo, an impressive mark for a lad that debuted as a ‘patch’ for Manuel Pablo. In his milestone game he also entered as a substitute after the injury of Sidnei.

Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ replaced Sidnei at minute 25 of the past game with RCD Espanyol. It has been an instable season for the Madrilenian defender, because despite been his match number 17 on this season it was only the third in liga for him on this new year. But that has been a normal thing during his eight-year career at the club.

Beyond that the defeat against RCD Espanyol is a special mark for him as it was his match number 200 wearing the shirt of Deportivo (104 Primera División, 74 Segunda División, 20 Copa Del Rey & 2 UEFA Cup).

It’s a remarkable mark for a player that isn’t in the list of fixed starters, but that already spent eight years at the club. The right-back arrived to A Coruña in July of 2007 and became the first signing of Deportivo B ahead of the season 2007/08. He had been captain of Real Madrid C after been signed from Segunda B outfit CD Leganés.

And without any warning he was debuting a few months later with the first team. Relegation-troubled Deportivo needed a right defender to replace injured Manuel Pablo in the visit to Villarreal CF (Jan 13, 2008), and former coach Lotina, just like Víctor did with Sidnei during last weekend, picked him as a patch.

Deportivo lost that game (3-4), but Laure left a positive impression and just one year later he was promoted on a permanent basis to the first team, a step that within the last two decades only Álex Bergantiños and Juan Dominguez had been able to complete with relative success.

On Wednesday, Laure was commenting his latest entry as a patch, time in order to perform as a left-back “I wasn’t surprised with the change. I played before in that position and can adapt. Clearly it isn’t my natural position, but I have played a lot there. I thank the confidence of the coach for allowing me to enter at that delicate moment. I was content for participating, but sad for the result.”
