This is heading into the worst season of Juan Dominguez after been promoted from the B squad. The midfielder has only played five times on the league season. He signed a contract extension in June.

In June Juan Dominguez signed a three-year renewal after a long negotiation that never seemed to come to an end, and the first year of his new contract has been disappointing. After 30 matchdays he has only played in five games (185 minutes). It is his worst mark since joining the first team in 2009, because apart from his debuting season, he always added 1,000 or more minutes in a single season.

The Galician was only a starter twice in liga and both opportunities were early on the season (at Real Betis and Vs. Athletic Club), plus making an appearance after half-rime at the Camp Nou. He can be considered as a direct victim of Pedro Mosquera’s arrival.

Because coach Víctor has more options for the two positions at midfield and he and Álex Bergantiños were facing more competition, but the coach has used three men in the sector lately and not even then he was playing, because Víctor always chose the other three competitors leaving him on the sidelines. It neither helped the fact that he was affected by circumstances.

Lately he has been injured with a muscle problem that left him out for a month draining any chance to compete for a spot, while he was punished for been one of the starters in both legs during the disaster series in Copa against CD Mirandés, actually he was replaced at half-time of the second match held at the Riazor.

His bad moment was pointing to an exit during the winter window as RCD Mallorca were interested in him, but in the end the player refused to leave as he was expecting for more opportunities. Big part of the fans is unhappy with his performance, because they believe that the Galician midfielder doesn’t add anything to the team when he is on the pitch. Definitely this has been a step backwards to him and the major challenge is to see if the coach can recover him ahead of next season.
