Emre Çolak is the first signing for Deportivo ahead of the season 2016/17. The left winger/playmaker arrives for free from Galatasaray SK sealing a three-year contract.

On Friday the club officially announced the first signing for the season 2016/17;  it’s Turkish midfielder Emre Çolak. The 25-year-player was offered some weeks ago by his agent as he was ending contract with Galatasaray S.K., the club made an offer that was accepted and both sides were only waiting for the final in the Turkish Cup before making an announcement (it was played on Thursday).

But there was a last-minute delay as Galatasaray S.K. made a renewal offer, but the player rejected it although they were offering more money.  What prevailed was the desire of the player of meeting one of the big European leagues after spending his whole life attached to The Lions. He is the first Turkish player in the history of Deportivo.

Çolak joined Galatasaray’s academy at the age of 13 and was part of Turkey’s youth teams between the divisions U-15 and U-21. In 7 seasons with Galatasaray S.K. he made 132 league appearances scoring 10 goals. He also made two appearances with the national senior squad in 2012.

He is a left-footed player that normally performs as a left winger or as a playmaker, but for the past season he was moved to the centre of midfield after the arrival of Wesley Sneijder. He spent big part of the season as a replacement, but gained a place back at the end of the campaign. But it was too late to be considered for the Euro2016, mainly as Galatasaray had a poor season ending out of the European seats (6th).
