REVIEW: EL PALMAR 1 – FABRIL 1 (TERCERA)

30 May 2016
Deportivo B passed the round before a combative rival that didn’t create too many opportunities for the miracle. The team had things under control despite been playing in artificial grass.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Manu Mosquera only had three players out due to injury reasons: Pancho Cotos, Jorge Fernández and Ángel Fernández. He made a few changes at the lineup, the main one was to rest Óscar García.

The draw was a 4-3-3, Anxo Pérez was the keeper, Blas Alonso was playing at the right side in defense, Lucas Viña performed on the left, the centre-backs were Iago López and Róber. Sam Piette, Edu Expósito and Pol Calvet were the centre midfielders;

Hugo Rama was the right winger, Álex Corredera attacked from the left flank, and Juan Otero was the centre forward. The 0-4 score of the first-leg was giving confidence to the visiting team. El Palmar CF were needing a 5-0 win to pass the round.

THE MATCH
Fabril passed the test, the grass of the Municipal El Palmar is synthetic, a surface that has always gave problems to the Galician lads. Besides, in past seasons the team suffered a lot playing on the road during the playoff round. But this time the situation was different, because El Palmar CF barely gave problems to a defence that was always well placed.

Iago López and Róber returned to play together, the starting couple at the centre of the defence spent the major part of the second round injured, and their presence on the pitch brought confidence to the team; to the point that the Murcians only completed one shot on target in the first half.

Neither Fabril gave too many problems as they lasted the full first part in getting used to the artificial pitch and to the heat. Their only chance in the first part was a wide shot of Corredera when local goalie Héctor was on the ground; therefore, the first half was boring, with both sides barely creating any harm. Actually the only shot on target in this half was an attempt of Rodri that was saved by Anxo Pérez.

The first modification at Fabril was made at half-time with Taboada replacing Sam Piette.
The second half was more entertaining, the locals claimed control of the actions and had more presence in attack, while Depor B were able to score in their first opportunity.

It was a collective play that ended with Hugo Rama firing an impressive shot from the edge of the area. The 0-5 in the aggregate score was securing the tie, but El Palmar CF never gave up and keep trying until scoring the equalizer.

Michael assisted Dani Martínez and he tied the game with a low shot. The Murcians insisted before a Fabril that preferred to defend. Bamba and Borja Domingo were the last two changes in a team that was relaxed and that could have lost within the last ten minutes.

And it’s that El Palmar were close to score in two opportunities at the end of the meeting, in the first substitute Kiki should have scored before Anxo, but the keeper blocked the shot, while at the last minute the locals protested a possible penalty of Anxo before the same player

AFTER THE GAME
The game was resolved since the first-leg, but Fabril made a serious game playing in the conditions that have gave them problems in past playoff rounds: artificial grass and playing on the road. The team left a good impression as the rival battled until the last second. The draw for the second round will take place on Monday (Madrid, 17h00 CET)
