The club announced on Monday that Víctor Sánchez is no longer the coach of Deportivo. Tino Fernández said that they are already searching for the replacement, who should be announced on next week.

Deportivo announced on Monday that the club’s officials have decided to terminate the contract of Víctor Sánchez Del Amo. The coach arrived to the club at the end of the season 2014/15 and clinched the salvation in two straight campaigns, he even signed a one-year renewal in January, but the terrible second round plus the problems inside the changing room completely changed the picture in recent months.

The Blanquiazul outfit only won two games in 2016 and at the end of the liga tournament he had problems with Luisinho and Lopo. A cloud of uncertainty surrounded the club and some people asked for his exit. The club’s officials decided to wait until the season was over and the final decision was made a fortnight after the league tournament ended.

President Tino Fernández addressed the media on Monday’s afternoon and explained that the decision was made as the club’s officials lost the confidence in the coach, The decision has more to do with the future than with the past. The past weeks of the season were a disaster. The process to gain confidence is slower than to lose it. We had a meeting with Víctor and asked ourselves if we were prepared to face the difficulties.”

The president also announced that the club is already searching for the substitute and that the decision should be made on next week. Víctor was the sixth coach of Deportivo within the last five years and the third sacked since the arrival of Tino Fernández. The Madrilenian will be remembered for clinching two salvations, but curiously he only won 10 games after coaching Deportivo in 50 official meetings (46 in Liga and 4 in Copa Del Rey).

Víctor’s numbers at Deportivo:

Season Wins Draws Defeats
2014/15 1 5 2
2015/16 9 20 13
Total 10 25 15
