Another disappointing season with the team missing the train of promotion during the playoff round. The inconsistency in the regular season caused to end 3rd and therefore to complicate the chances in the playoffs.

The Tercera season 2015/16 was a repetition of the previous campaign for Deportivo B, the squad had good results, but the intermittence never allowed the chance to aspire to a higher position than the third place. A good example of the situation is what happened within the first eight matchdays.

Depor B had a poor start in the league despite defeating CD Boiro on the road during the first matchday (0-1), team that was going to end at the first place (and promoted during the playoff). What happened is that later the team only picked two points in the next three games, including a disappointing 2-1 defeat visiting Ribadeo FC, one of the teams that ended relegated.

Immediately the team reacted with two big wins, first crushing CF Noia (0-4) and later Racing Club Vilalbés (5-1) in what turned to be one of the two biggest wins on the season. But then Depor’s lads only picked one point in the next two games, which included a new loss at home, this time against Rápido de Bouzas (0-1).

At this point Fabril was only seventh at the standings after only eight matchdays. Those ups and downs were also possible to witness during single games, like in matchday 10 with the team drawing 4-4 visiting CD Barco just when the score was 2-4 by minute 75.

The team continued to live outside of the promotion zone after only winning three of the next eight games. The 1-0 loss visiting SDC Galicia de Mugardos (1-0, matchday 16) left Depor’s lads again at the seventh place, but then Mosquera’s players added 7 of the next 9 points in dispute, so the 3-0 win at home before CD As Pontes, match that closed the first round, allowed the team to end the round fifth at the standings.

The second round followed the same path:  an irregular team that suffered important setbacks and that was later reacting, starting with the first game in the seconds round: a 0-3 loss against CD Boiro, which turned to be the worst defeat on the season.

However, the erratic trajectory changed in the last frame, the team finally found a path to regularity and ended the league tournament winning 8 of the last 12 matches, so it wasn’t difficult to secure the playoff spot, though the fact of ending third complicated the things as it was forcing the lads to play three rounds before reaching the promotion to Segunda B.

And, as it happened a year before, Fabril failed in the second tie. In the first it didn’t suffer before Andalusian club El Palmar CF (agg. 5-1), but the practical game of Madrilenian side CDA Navalcarnero proved to be too much for Depor B after only clinching a 2-1 win at the Riazor in the first-leg, result that was nullified with the 1-0 loss in the second-leg.

The team only needed one goal to reach the final round, but it failed to do it throughout the 90 minutes despite been the best scorer in the Galician group during the regular season (74). Deportivo B will continue to play at Tercera División during the campaign 2016/17, same league of the previous four seasons. It’s also the third failure in a playoff round during the same period of time.
