On Monday, Deportivo confirmed the exit of Miguel Cardoso. The Portuguese winger has cancelled his contract with the club and it was informed by the Portuguese media that he has signed for CD Tondela, a recently promoted club to the first division in Portugal.

Ahead of the campaign 2015/16, and after a year in a half with good numbers at Fabril (19 goals plus 11 assists in 51 appearances at Segunda B), Cardoso was promoted to the first team. Former coach Víctor Sánchez wasn’t sure to allow his exit during last summer as he was lacking wingers at the team, but he was gone by January after only playing 41 minutes distributed in three games during the first round of la liga.

Still, he left a positive impression, starting with the visit to FC Barcelona (December 12), game in which he was the revulsive giving the assist for the first goal and later hitting the post at the last minute in which could have been an historic win for Depor.

Later Cardoso ended loaned at União da Madeira, club trying to survive at Portugal’s first division. In the end they failed and suffered the relegation in the last matchday. The 21-year-old winger barely played at that team, he only made ten appearances (only twice as a starter) and was never a factor in a team that had the second worst offence in the league (only 27 goals scored in 34 matches). To make things worse the Portuguese got injured in his last game, an ankle sprain that sidelined him for a month.

Cardoso’s case should be a surprise, because although it wasn’t expected that he was going to be part of the first team with new boss Gaizka Garitano, it was commented that he was going to be loaned again, but in the end it’s a cancelation of contract. This is the second confirmed exit from the first team for a player that was under contract ahead of the new season. The previous case is Juan Dominguez, who has been loaned out to Segunda outfit RCD Mallorca.
