CONCLUSIONS FROM THE TERESA HERRERA

11 Aug 2016
Seven conclusions from the Teresa Herrera. The team showed a positive facet, though itís not physically ready for la liga. Several players demonstrated that they could have a key role in the new season.

The Teresa Herrera is always the most important friendly of Deportivo during the pre-seasons, because itís the presentation of the team before the fans and the first showcase of what can be expected in liga. In this opportunity itís possible to obtain seven conclusions of what new coach Gaizka Garitano is trying to assemble.

1- Garitano has a system:The new coach has said in previous weeks that the idea is to alternate the 4-2-3-1/4-4-2 with the 3-5-2, and judging for what was saw at the Riazor it is clear that the first draw is the one that will be used at the start of la liga. With Lucas out in this opportunity, the coach opted in keeping a system with one attacker, with Bruno Gama switched to the left wing and with «olak on the right flank.

2- The team is not ready, but brings hope: The first 20 minutes were great, Deportivo totally outplayed a Champions League outfit that, despite been apathetic, it still full of quality players from the elite. Later in the game Depor felt down, perhaps affected by the changes. Clearly the team is not physically ready to bear the tension of the 90 minutes, but in the Teresa Herrera it was shown a clear idea of what Garitano is trying to build up.

3- Albentosa earning a spot: Last year Arribas and Sidnei were the undisputable starters at Deportivo, now Raķl Albentosa has earned a spot alongside Sidnei. Garitano knows him from his stage at SD Eibar. Five of the four starters at defence during the Teresa Herrera were players that were at Deportivo during last campaign, the only exception was Albentosa.

4- Luisinho could stay, Saķl leaves: Saul Garcia wasnít picked for the last two friendly games and Garitano confirmed after the Teresa Herrera that he must leave as he needs to earn more experience. At the same time the coach confirmed that Luisinho, who played as a left winger during the second half, might stay and if the Portuguese leaves, then a new signing will be needed. As the coach said after the game, "We need two left-backs, the tactical decision is that I don't count with Saķl. He is a great player, but isnít ready yet. If it is Luisinho, it will be Luisinho & Navarro. If not, then it will be Navarro and another player."

5-Andone could be the key: With Lucas at the stands, the responsibility of the goals was for Florin Andone and the Rumanian left glimpses of his class with a beautiful goal chipping the ball over the keeper. He was named as the best player in the game and, despite been intermittent, means a hope for the fans that the position in attack is well covered with or without an exit of Lucas. Also to have in mind that he started the pre-season late and isnít 100% ready, something that Garitano reminded after the game.

6- The freshness of Carles Gil, «olak & Guilherme: The three new signings that have left a better impression in the pre-season are Carles Gil, Emre «olak and Guilherme, the last two were starters in the Teresa Herrera and definitely were the best men in the first part. Guilherme surprised with his class and control at midfield territory adding something different than Borges, who was sent to the bench, while «olak is very talented and can play at both wings. His crosses and aids in defence might be crucial. In the case of Gil, he came out from the bench and scored the second goal, a luxury on the bench.

7- Borja Valle earns a chance: 24-year-old Borja Valle was signed with the idea of loaning him out in order to gain more experience, but he has convinced Garitano, to the point that the coach affirmed that heís staying. He has shown glimpses of class and is clear that the ex-Oviedo man will be one of the alternatives at the bench.
