In a quick move by Depor, the club reacted to the injury of Joselu signing Ryan Babel. The former attacker from Liverpool FC will undergo the medicals on Thursday.

Just hours after Joselu conceded a press conference in order to talk of his situation, the club informed that it already signed a replacement: Ryan Babel. The Dutch striker is a free agent and therefore is able to sign for Depor as La Liga allows the inscription of free agents at any time if the conditions of the salary cap are fulfilled.

The signing is also a surprise as, one day before, president Tino Fernández stated that the club was going to be careful in searching for possible replacements, but in the end the Galicians only lasted three days in finding a reinforcement.

The 29-year-old attacker arrived on Wednesday’s night to A Coruña and will undergo the medicals on Thursday. Babel is a different profile to Joselu, because he is more a winger, so it’s true that the signing is taking place as a reaction to the injury suffered by the Galician attacker in the game Vs. Athletic Club, but it must be also understood as a complement for the current squad, after all Joselu will only be out for two months, but with a short squad the club has preferred to cover slots. This could also mean that Marlos Moreno will be used more as a centre forward from now own.

Ryan Guno Babel is pretty well known for his career at Ajax and Liverpool FC; he made 101 official presentations with the Dutch side and scored 20 goals, with the Reds he played 146 official games scoring 22 goals.

After leaving England he played for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga (6 goals in 51 games) and later has a second and short stage at Liverpool FC. His most recent club in Europe was Kasımpaşa SK in Turkey, club where he played 59 games within the seasons 2013/14 & 2014/15 (14 goals).

Babel has been part of the Dutch national football team since 2005, and has represented his country at all youth team levels. He played in two World Cups, 2006 and 2010, reaching the final of the latter.  His last activity was to play for Al Ain the Arabian Gul League (1 goal in 8 games). His last official game was on December 25, 2015, he was demoted to the reserves due to a poor performance.
