Good defence, bad offense, it is the summary of Deportivo in this match. Andone remains scoreless, while Juanfran was once again the player with more touches.

The six notes from the game Vs. Deportivo Alavés

1- A solid team in defence: The best news from the game is that coach Gaizka Garitano has built up a solid defence in a few weeks. Alavés only had four chances and only managed to complete one shot on target, which came at the last minute. Not even the absence of Sidnei has affected a team that knew how to face a dangerous game against a team that tried to play on the counterattack in the first half, and to dominate in the second. Last year the counterattack was a headache for the team, especially in the second round.

2- Lack of ideas in attack: The bad news in the game is that Depor continue to be a poor team in offense. It’s not possible to determine a pattern and the Blanquiazul team ended scoreless for the third straight opportunity. The shadow of Lucas chases a team in which its offensive players aren’t appearing. In this game Bruno Gama was intermittent, Fajr didn’t command the actions and Marlos Moreno added speed, but missed pause and knowledge about in which direction he should move. Andone even lost the patience with the Colombian. Neither Borja Valle added brilliance coming out from the bench.

3- Juanfran again on the spotlight: Without a pattern in offense the man with more touches in the game was once again Juanfran Moreno. The right-back touched the ball in 80 opportunities and even completed two shots. The lack of a strong reference in offense is moving the team to pass the ball to the right side and either attempt a long throw or a short combination to gain a cross, that’s why the Madrilenian has been so active in this start of season. In 2 of the 4 games played so far Juanfran has been the man with more touches.

4- The lonely ranger: Florin Andone is showing some of the strengths of Lucas, he is well positioned and frequently collects the ball at the edge of the area, the problem is that he isn’t scoring. He remains scoreless after four presentations and in this game he had two good opportunities, one of them was the lonely shot on target for Deportivo.

5- The position of Fajr: The position of Fayçal Fajr on the field continues to be a matter of controversy. Many fans ask to see him as a centre midfielder, but Garitano is still using him as a playmaker. In this game he made a last-minute change as the Moroccan and Marlos Moreno ended switching their positions. Fajr made five key passes, but it left the feeling that he misses depth and consistency. He still wasting too many good chances in set-pieces, though in one of those plays it came the ball the hit the woodwork.

6- The referee: Not a good game for Juan Martínez Munuera. The referee punished Depor with four yellow cards for only eight fouls, two of the cards were for protesting [Albentosa] and touching the ball after the whistle [Andone]. Meanwhile Alavés committed the double of fouls and only saw three yellow cards. Alexis Ruano should have been sent off with second yellow after a terrible tackle from behind over Marlos, but the referee wanted to avoid complications. This play cost a yellow to Albentosa for protesting.
