THE INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS

13 Oct 2016
Three Depor’s players had minutes during the international break. Celso Borges continues to be a key player for Costa Rica, while Fajr are Andone had a secondary role.

The international break saw three players of Deportivo having some minutes with their national teams. Celso Borges continues to be a key player for Costa Rica, the Central American team kick-offs the last round in CONCACAF’S World Cup qualifiers in November and during this break they played a friendly match visiting Russia.

And they got a remarkable 3-4 win in a crazy game that was 1-3 by halftime and that was defined with a last-minute goal by the visitors. Borges played 78 minutes in the game and had a solid game performing as a centre midfielder, which included to give the assist in the first goal.

Costa Rica will face Trinidad and Tobago on the road and the United States at home during the first two qualifying matchdays to be played in November. It’s expected that Borges will continue to be a starter for his team.

Meanwhile, the other two international players had a secondary role with their teams. Fayçal Fajr returned to be a substitute for Morocco’s coach Hervé Renard. The Lions begun the third round in the qualification to the World Cup with a 0-0 draw visiting Gabon. Depor’s midfielder spent the full game on the bench. In November they face a key match hosting Ivory Coast.

Morocco also played a friendly game and it was an easy 4-0 win over Canada. This time Fajr played the full 90 minutes performing as a centre midfielder. He had a solid game and assisted for the fourth goal with a perfect cross from the right. wing

Similar is the situation for Florin Andone with Romania. The striker is now a secondary player for coach Christoph Daum as he only played eight minutes in one of the two games in UEFA Group E World Cup qualifying round. The Romanians got four points from defeating Armenia on the road (0-5) and from a 0-0 draw visiting Kazakhstan.

Still, they are only third in the group behind Montenegro and Poland.  In November they face a key match hosting Poland. About the performance of Andone, despite only playing for eight minutes against Kazakhstan, he had a great chance to score and win the game after failing to head the ball at the goal line before keeper Stas Pokatilov.
