Mixed news for Garitano; Joselu won’t be available for the game against Sevilla, but the injury of Marlos Moreno isn’t serious and the Colombian already joined the trainings. Four men are out in international action.

Short week at Abegondo due to the international break. Coach Gaizka Garitano only scheduled five training sessions and the team will have the weekend off. The players spent the time completing the normal exercises of any normal week and there was a training match against Fabril in the covered pitch of Abegondo (Thursday).

About the fitness of the players, there were good and bad news. The good news is that the injury of Marlos Moreno wasn’t serious at all, to the point that by Thursday he had already joined the group. The Colombian was replaced in the game at Granada CF after suffering an ankle sprain and he was stretched off the pitch.

It was feared he was going to miss, at least, the next game against Sevilla CF, even the player was fearing the worst, as he told to reporters, “I felt a lot of pain and thought that my ankle was broken. When I went off the pitch I even felt that I was unable to walk, but it was only a scare.”  He should be available for next Saturday’s game at the Riazor.

The bad news is the case with Joselu Mato. The striker joined the group on last week and was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel after been out for two months due to ankle sprain suffered in his debut against Athletic Club (September 11).

But on Wednesday the player felt issues on his injured knee and the doctors decided that he should stop. Coach Garitano described the measure as “A precaution, but it’s normal because after an injury of the internal lateral ligament, occasionally, you have some minor discomforts.” The player trained apart on Thursday and Friday and it’s unlikely that the doctors will allow his participation in the game against Sevilla CF.

Three other men faced issues during the week: left-back Luisinho (thigh), attacker Borja Valle (quadriceps) and centre-back Alejandro Arribas (Soleus). Luisinho was already training with the group on Friday, while Arribas will do it next week. In the case of Borja Valle, he will undergo scans on Monday.

Finally, Garitano missed four men during the week as they are taking part with their national teams: Florin Andone (Romania), Fayçal Fajr (Morocco), Celso Borges (Costa Rica) and Emre Çolak (Turkey). Çolak should be back in training by Monday, Andone and Fajr should do it on Thursday and Borges will do it until next Friday.
