Garitano could be at the edge of destitution and loses Ryan Babel for Saturday’s “final”. Málaga CF have problems as up to eight men could be missing the game against Depor.

Tense week for Deportivo ahead of the visit to Málaga CF (La Rosaleda, Saturday, 13h00 CET). The defeat against Sevilla CF left an open wound in a team that remains at the edge of relegation and with coach Gaizka Garitano rumoured to be at the edge of the destitution in case of losing this match, this since Depor have only won twice on this campaign. Though it’s also uncertain as the Copa arrives in midweek and any drastic decision might be delayed.

But instead of searching for a revolution with the lineup in the attempt to find a reaction, Garitano has opted in supporting his players. Firstly, with a motivational speech that lasted 90 minutes before Tuesday’s training, and later having a meal with the players after Wednesday’s session behind closed doors at the Riazor. It’s also true that a revolution in the lineup is not entirely possible due to the large list of players facing physical problems.

Ryan Babel scored and assisted against Sevilla CF, but during the week he picked a grade I muscle injury on the quadriceps muscle of his left leg. The Dutchman will miss the game with the Andalusians and also the Copa first-leg against Real Betis (Tuesday).

Other three men are already out of the match: attacker Borja Valle is out until December with a quadriceps injury, while right-back Laure is dragging a grade II injury on the Soleus muscle of his left leg. He is out for at least one month, then striker Joselu Mato (knee) already completed part of the training session with the rest of the squad, but Saturday’s game is too soon for him.

Centre-back Alejandro Arribas is also dragging issues after skipping two training sessions during the week, but the scans only detected a small muscle problem and he still has chances to be picked for Saturday’s clash at La Rosaleda. However, by Thursday he was training apart and will make a late test on Friday.

If Arribas is fit to play, then Garitano will have 18 players available for the game (without counting third keeper Rubén Martínez). In case the centre-back isn’t ready, then the coach will have to pick a player from Deportivo B in order to fill the gap at the roster.

At Málaga CF, the Andalusian team is living a placid situation after a goalless draw at the Camp Nou that’s leaving the team at mid-table. But coach Juande Ramos has been having big problems to prepare the games due to the large number of casualties hitting his squad.

For the game against Depor the Andalusians are dragging five casualties due to injury reasons: Midfielders Sergio Gontán ‘Keko’ (muscle), José Recio (adductor), Zdravko Kuzmanović (Achilles), plus striker Charles (knee) and centre-back Weligton (knee surgery)

Things are worse since left-back Juan Carlos Pérez ‘Juankar’ and centre-back Diego Llorente are suspended after been sent off in the previous game against FC Barcelona. So, seven players are off the game with Deportivo.

At least goalkeeper Carlos Kameni has options to play the game. The Cameroonian international picked a muscle injury (quadriceps) in the game against the Catalans, he started to train on Wednesday and is expected that he could be fit for Saturday.
