THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE NON-EU PLAYERS

06 Dec 2006
For the second consecutive year, Depor's non-EU players are the ones with less minutes on the pitch. In fact, De Guzm??n and Mun??a haven't played yet in la liga, the only one that have participated is Sebasti??n Taborda with 118 minutes in four games, a very poor number compared with the 3,163 of the trio in Celta (Baiano, Iriney and Nen?©).

The trio of non-EU players in Deportivo continues to live in the shadows. Sebasti??n Taborda, Juli??n de Guzm??n and Gustavo Mun??a don't count too much for Joaqu?n Caparr??s and only accumulates 118 minutes on the pitch, a mark that has been only reached by Taborda since De Guzm??n and Mun??a haven't debuted yet in this liga season.

This poor statistic converts Depor's trio of non-EU players into the less habitual in Primera. This list is commanded by Celta since Baiano, Iriney and Nen?© accumulate 3,163 minutes on the pitch. Another important fact is that the 'foreign' group in Celta has scored 12 of the 18 goals conquered by the team, while the same group in Deportivo still scoreless after thirteen matches. Another important trio is the one in Racing: Felipe Melo, Garay and Zigic. This three players have performed during 2,418 minutes and have scored eight goals.

A similar situation can be seen in the other clubs in Primera, the average of participation of the non-EU players is 1,500 minutes. The duo Pablo Aimar and Ewerthon accumulates 1,448 minutes in Zaragoza plus six goals scored. In Villarreal, Guillermo Franco and Riquelme have played 1,261 minutes although they have only conquered two goals. Another important trio is the one of Sevilla. The list of non-EU players  is conformed by Adriano, Luis Fabiano and Chevant??n. They accumulates 1,464 minutes and 6 goals, this statistic should be bigger, but Chevant??n started the season injured and the Uruguayan has only played one game so far.

The biggest clubs also presents an important contribution made by the players without a communitary passport. In Barcelona, Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Marqu?©s have participated during 2,194 minutes and accumulates 14 goals, a number that would be bigger, but Eto'o has been injured during the last month and a half. In Real Madrid, the duo Diarra-Robinho has made less minutes (1,666), but they contribution still to be important, specially the one of Diarra, an important piece in Capello's lineups.

But this situation can also be seen in the smallest clubs in Primera. Levante is doing a decent campaign, and the contribution of their non-EU players is also important: ?lvaro Luiz, Ettien and Meyong. They accumulates 2,174 minutes in la liga plus three goals. In fact, ?lvaro scored the equaliser goal in the last weekend's match with Barcelona.

One of the clubs with the worst number in this department is Recreativo, they only have the striker Ikechuwku Uche as a player without a communitary passport, the Nigerian has only spent 193 minutes on the pitch, but it has to be remembered that he started the campaign injured and begun to play until matchday eleven. At least he has scored three goals with the Andalucian squad. Without doubt, this is a department that Deportivo has to improve during the following campaigns.
