The draw for the last-16 round was made in Madrid. Depor will face Alavés with the first-leg to be played at the Riazor, it will be the first game in 2017 for both teams.

On Friday, the Spanish federation made the draw for the last-16 round in Copa Del Rey. Deportivo will face Deportivo Alavés. The first game will be played at the Riazor on January 3 (21h15 CET) and the returning leg will take place on January 11 at Mendizorroza (19h00 CET).

This is the third opportunity with Depor facing the Basques in a Copa series. The first was played for the season 1954/55 (first round). Each side won a leg with a 2-0 score and it was necessary a third game, which was played in Barcelona with Depor winning 2-0.

The second meeting with Alavés in Copa was played in the campaign 1997/98 (quarterfinals). At the time the team was coached by Jose Manuel Corral and lost the first game 3-1 at Mendizorroza. Donato scored the goal from the penalty spot. And the Galicians were eliminated in this series after only been able to add a 0-0 draw in the second-leg played at the Riazor.
