THE PROBLEMS IN VALENCIA

07 Dec 2006
Deportivo and Valencia have one thing in common: both are passing trough their worst moment of the season. Depor accumulates six liga matches without a victory, while Valencia has spent the last eight games without achieving the three points. The injuries are the main reason to the problems in the Valencian club, but there are others like the confrontation between Quique Flores (the coach) and Carboni (the sporting director).

The main reason for the complicate situation lived in Valencia is the long list of casualties due to injuries: Mario Regueiro (knee), Fernando Morientes (thigh), David Villa (muscular injury), Miguel (groin), David Albelda (knee), Ed?? (knee), Emiliano Moretti (knee), Asier del Horno (muscular problems), Carlos Marchena (knee) and Jaime Gavil??n (knee). Youngster Aar??n got injured in the Champions League match with Roma (muscular problem) and in this way, the list of casualties is now conformed by eleven players.

But things might be improving for the coach Quique S??nchez Flores. His main striker, David Villa, is ready to return after the problems that he suffered at the beginning of the game with Real Madrid. Villa has been the protagonist in the recent duels between Deportivo and Valencia, El Guaje has scored three goals in the last four confrontations between this clubs.

Another player that could be ready to face Depor is David Albelda, the captain has returned to train with normality, but the doctors are recommending to give him more rest. The last word will be taken by Quique Flores, but with the current situation in Valencia, is very probable that the Madrilian coach will take some risk and will use Albelda in the starting lineup for Sunday's clash. Curiously, Albelda got injured in the match with Osasuna, since then, Valencia hasn't been able to obtain a victory.

But the existence of a long list of injuries isn't the only problem in Valencia. It's very well know that the relationship between the coach Quique Flores and the sporting director Carboni is almost inexistent. The Valencian media is convinced that Flores will be sacked at the end of the season if the squad ends out of Europe.

Another problem is that the three most expensive signings for the summer are resulting to be a total failure: Tavano (€9 million), Del Horno (€7.5 million) and Joaqu?n (€25 million).  Tavano doesn't count for Quique Flores and he is near to be sent on loan to Italy, Del Horno has been injured, and Joaqu?n's performance has been disappointing. Together, this players accumulates 848 minutes in la liga and zero goals scored. This is one of the most criticised things against Carboni, after all,  not any day a club is willing to invest €41.5 million in new signings.
