THINKING OF ALAVÉS & VILLARREAL

09 Jan 2017
Once again Deportivo are playing two games in a matter of four days, and once again Garitano has problems due to the casualties affecting his squad.

New busy week for Deportivo, on Wednesday the Galicians visit Deportivo Alavés in the returning leg of Copa Del Rey (Mendizorroza, 19h00 CET). In order to advance to quarterfinals, Depor need to win the game or instead a draw scoring at least three goals. Three days later, on Saturday, Los Blanquiazules host Villarreal CF playing for la liga (Riazor, 20h45 CET).

Coach Gaizka Garitano is still having problems at the moment of preparing the lineups due to the short squad. He is currently having 19 men available, though right-back Laure (Soleus) should receive the medical okay to play during the week, which will raise the number to 20.

But winger Carles Gil (knee sprain) remains out and playmaker Fayçal Fajr is with Morocco ahead of the African Cup. Besides, right-back Juanfran Moreno won’t be available for the game in liga after been sent off with two yellow cards against RCD Espanyol, while centre-back Rubén Albentosa and left-back Luisinho are dragging knocks.

In these last two cases Garitano might reserve them for liga, while Juanfran will play in Copa. For the liga game the coach might be tempted in playing with Luisinho and Navarro with the latter performing on the right side of the defence. There are rumours pointing that Depor are about to announce a signing, but no matter what, the reinforcements won’t be available before the game in Copa.

Depor have been complaining that they are having less rest than the rivals at the moment of playing a game in midweek, however in this opportunity things are different. Deportivo Alavés played until Sunday visiting Athletic Club, which means that they will have two days less for the rest compared to Depor. The Basques have no injury concerns for the game in Copa though.

About Villarreal CF, they were also playing on Sunday against FC Barcelona and in Copa they play at the same time (Wednesday, 19h00 CF) hosting Real Sociedad. Coach Fran Escribá is having some offensive problems as Bruno Soriano is dragging a knock, while Roberto Soldado (knee injury) and Cedric Bakambu (concentrated with Congo for the African Cup) are unavailable, though Nicola Sansone and Pato have had a good performance in recent games (Combined the duo has scored three goals in the last four liga games). The problem is that Sansone is suspended with five yellow cards, while left-back Jaume Costa is out after been sent off against FC Barcelona.
