Deportivo B finally conquered the promotion to Segunda B, the team had problems at the start of the Tercera season, but dominated the Galician group and didn’t lose any game in 2017, which included the playoffs.

Spectacular season for coach Cristóbal Parralo and his players; Deportivo B finally conquered the promotion to Segunda B and it did it offering a solid impression. The Andalusian coach always knew what he wanted and his tactics were always around the 4-2-3-1 formation with some variants, he barely made changes at the starting lineup, and during the games the modifications were almost always arriving within the last ten minutes.

The team had problems to adapt at the beginning of the season, because it was mixing convincing victories with unexpected defeats, as example the team opened the league at Tercera with a big 5-1 win over SD Compostela, one of the favourites sides at the Galician group at Tercera, and in the next matchday it lost at home before Bergantiños CF (1-2).

The same picture continued until November, at the beginning of that month the team suffered two straight defeats (the only time on the season that it happened) visiting UD Barbadás and Racing Club Vilalbés (both 1-0).

It was matchday 13 and Depor B were 8th at the standings, seven points behind the first place. And then the ascension began, the team won the next three games and, on December 6, it lost visiting CD Castro (2-1). That was going to be the 7th and last defeat on the season.

Since that moment the team was going to chain a rally of 23 games without losing, which included the two games in the playoffs. Truly the team lacked some punch in some specific moments, but it ended the season as the best offensive line the group (79 goals scored).

Maybe the best virtue of Fabril on the season was to show maturity to face every scenario, something that’s difficult in a team where the majority are U-23 players. A second virtue of the team in this last stretch was a defensive security that was going to break records.

And it’s that Fabril didn’t allow goals between matchdays 25 & 31. Keeper Álex Cobo lasted 622 minutes without conceding a goal, which is the highest mark for Deportivo B during this century. With these strengths on, Fabril secured the first place in the Galician group and moved towards the playoffs.

Since it ended at the first place, the team had the privilege of only needing one series to reach the promotion to Segunda B, and it faced another defensive wall: CP Cacereño. The team from Extremadura won its group only losing four games and only allowing 16 goals, the best mark of Tercera División.

But Depor B prevailed, it didn’t allow goals in the two-leg series and secured the promotion with a 2-0 win at the Riazor (May 29). Thus, Deportivo B will play at Segunda División B for the first time since the season 2010/11.

After the promotion was secured, coach Parralo commented the season, “I believe we haven’t realized yet about what we have conquered. We achieved the goal, but with the passage of the hours we will be realizing about what we have done and will understand that the season was long and tough. I am really happy for the lads, because they grow a lot, they knew how to compete at every moment.”
