Deportivo will spend the major part of the pre-season in Galicia, it will only leave Spain in order to play against FC Porto. The novelty is that the concentration in Vilalba is taking place at the end and not at the beginning.

The pre-season of Deportivo starts in two weeks, it can be divided in three stages, the first one is the longer part as it will last 24 days. The first team will be training at Abegondo since July 3 and it will play its first friendly game ten days later.

During this stage, Pepe Mel’s team will play eight friendly games in fourteen days, all of them in Galicia and facing rivals from Segunda B or Tercera División. The coaching staff is aware of the problems to make signings, but hopes that at least two incorporations can be done at this point.

Then Deportivo will increase the level of the competition and will open August facing FC Porto, Real Oviedo and West Brom, the latter for the Teresa Herrera. The meeting with FC Porto is the only match scheduled outside of Spain, though it only means a small trip (July 30).

The third stage will be a novelty, because Deportivo will be concentrated in Vilalba days before the kick-off in liga. Vilalba, a city in Lugo’s province, is a common place where Depor are used to train during the pre-season stages (the last time was in 2012 with Oltra on board).

But in this opportunity the novelty is that it is taking place at the end of the pre-season and not at the beginning. The team will be training at Hotel Attica 21 between August 7 & 11. Mel hopes that the first team could be closed at that point and wants to see the players earning confidence among each other.

Those five days will also be useful to reinforce tactical and technical aspects of the game. With the concentration ending on Friday August 11, there’s the chance to play a friendly game on that weekend, then, seven days later, la liga begins.

The eleven friendly games scheduled for the pre-season:
July 13: Racing Villalbés - Deportivo (A Magdalena, Vilalba)
July 14: SD Arosa - Deportivo (A Lomba, Vilagarcía de Arousa)
July 15: SD Silva - Deportivo (Campus Universitario de Elviña, A Coruña)
