FAJR LEAVES DEPORTIVO

21 Jul 2017
Fayçal Fajr has joined Getafe CF in a free-transfer, though Depor are keeping the half of the player’s rights and there is a penalization if the Madrilenians use the midfielder against Deportivo during the first year.

It was well-known that Fayçal Fajr wasn’t content with his situation at Deportivo after lacking minutes on last season, and on Thursday it was confirmed that the midfielder is leaving in order to join Getafe CF in a two-year deal. It’s a weird deal as the player goes out in a free transfer, but Depor reported the operation as a “transfer” without giving more details.

What was commented in the media is that Deportivo aren’t receiving anything for the player, only it’s skipping to pay this year’s wages, but at the same time they are keeping the 50% of the player’s rights, while Getafe CF will have to pay a penalization if they want to use the Moroccan against Depor in any of the official games to be played during the season 2017/18.

Fajr joined Deportivo during the summer of 2015. At the time, he was a refreshing addition to the squad, a kind of multifunctional player that coach Víctor Sánchez liked to use in three positions, during his first season at the club he was basically playing as a centre midfielder, but in many occasions attached to the left wing and sometimes acted as a playmaker.

Technically it was the same position, but always had a special task according to the rival. The sense was that he was lost when he plays attached to the left wing and was adding more things performing as a centre midfielder or playmaker. During the campaign 2015/16, he contributed with five goals and three assists (2,841 minutes), one of the goals was a wonderful strike that opened the score at Villarreal CF in a match that certified the permanence.

But one season later he lost the continuity in the lineups, he started the campaign acting as a playmaker for Garitano and ended performing as a left winger for Pepe Mel, the problem was that he was going in and out of the formations and his performance was intermittent (1,202 minutes in liga). His lowest moment was to be sent out in the visit to Atlético forcing his team to play with one less man for an entire half (September 25). The Moroccan also missed a penalty against Valencia (April 02).

Among the players under contract, this is the fifth exit from the first team during the summer window. Previously Pablo Insua was transferred to Schalke 04, Álex Bergantiños was loaned to Sporting Gijón, while Oriol Riera and Laure rescinded their contracts.
