FOURTH WEEK IN THE PRE-SEASON

01 Aug 2017
New week in the pre-season of Deportivo, the team suffered the first loss on the pitch and also lost Carles Gil, the first important injury in this stage.

Deportivo completed the fourth week in the pre-season with six training sessions and three new friendly matches. The coaching staff continued with the policy of only having one training session per day and mainly focused in tactical aspects.

Coach Pepe Mel continued working the tactics, which included to train offensive moves, shots on target, the defensive withdrawal, the pressure in specific zones on the pitch and the administration of the ball possession.

The team also faced three friendly games, two of them against Segunda B clubs that turned to be easy wins: 5-0 at Pontevedra CF and 4-1 at Racing Ferrol. The week was closed with a huge loss visiting FC Porto (0-4), which is the most difficult opponent in the pre-season schedule.

24 players are training with the team, plus academy lads Francis and Edu Expósito. The first serious injury case of the pre-season emerged with Carles Gil, the winger is still facing the same groin problems of last season (pubalgy) and the doctors decided that he should stop training. It still to be seen if he will be available for the opening game in liga against Real Madrid.

The rest of cases are normal injuries in a pre-season stage. The week started with Fede Cartabia (Achilles) and Gerard Valentín (tendinitis) sidelined, both recovered and played in the game against FC Porto, while the other players apart from Gil that ended the week injured were Celso Borges and Raúl Albentosa.

Borges suffered a knock in the friendly against Racing Ferrol and skipped the friendly in Portugal, while Albentosa had to be replaced in the first half of the game at the Dragão after suffering an ankle sprain.
