The summer window closes its doors on Friday and Deportivo have four pending issues: the signing of a striker, to decide if a new keeper will arrive, plus solving the future of Bicho and Saúl.

In several countries, the summer transfer window will be closed on Thursday (August 31), but in Spain the clubs have until Friday at midnight in order to sign players. Deportivo already completed eight signings, four are loan deals (two with buyout options -Carles Gil and Adrián), one was a zero-cost transfer (Fede Cartabia) and three were final transfers with Depor paying around €7.5 million (Schär, Guilherme and Gerard Valentín).

Meanwhile, seven players under contract have left the club during the summer. Depor only collected money in one of them after Pablo Insua was transferred to Schalke 04 for €3.5 million, then Álex Bergantiños was loaned to Sporting Gijón and Róber to Levante UD, while Oriol Riera, Laure, Fayçal Fajr and Juan Domínguez rescinded their contracts.

Coach Pepe Mel currently has a team composed with 24 players and there are four pending issues before closing the market: signing a new striker, deciding if a new goalie should join the team, plus allowing the exits of Bicho and Saúl García.

The striker is the issue gathering the attention at this point, the main candidate is Lucas Pérez. It seemed that Depor and Arsenal were negotiating an agreement for a loan, but the Gunners want to wait until Friday in order to see if another club appears willing to at least pay the €15 million that they want for the player. In the meantime, the club has a “secret” B option in case the return of Lucas cannot be materialized.

The case of the goalkeeper seems even more difficult, Mel wanted a new goalie while the club officials want to stay with Rubén Martínez and Przemysław Tytoń, and the recent performance of Rubén against Levante might give the reason to the club’s officials. The club have targeted prospects like Joel Robles, but it’s a difficult operation as it should also include the exit of one of the two current goalies at the team, and with only three days remaining this double move seems improbable.

About the exits, both Saúl García and Bicho know since the end of the pre-season that they aren’t part of the plans. In the case of the left-back, the club is searching for a loan in a Segunda club, while the initial idea with Bicho was too see him alternating between Fabril and the first team, but the winger prefers to leave and currently is searching for a loan spell at Segunda or Segunda B.
