The signing of Lucas has opened the door to the 4-4-2, Pepe Mel is ready to embrace the system and it could be used on Sunday before Real Sociedad.

Coach Pepe Mel is known for using 4-4-2 systems in his squads, but since his arrival he only used once the system in fifteen league matchdays (against Valencia, April 02). What happened is that he realized that the draw didn’t fit the characteristics of the players, so he continued implementing the 4-2-3-1.

And after Lucas Pérez was signed, it was pretty clear that coach Pepe Mel is finally having the change to reintroduce the 4-4-2, the system wasn’t used during the pre-season due to the number of strikers available at the squad.

During the week, the coach talked of the subject, “There are things favoring this, not only the arrival of Lucas, but to see that Adrián is a little better, I believe he is now closer to be the good player that we know, he will add the option to play in this way, and Lucas means a step forward. You can use him on the left wing, as a playmaker and as the reference. We have alternatives and now the coaching staff must extract the best from them. “

The Madrilenian even analyzed the possibility of seeing Lucas and Andone playing together “It’s about to be seen. Last season I was watching Depor from the outside and thought that Joselu and Andone could play together, but when I worked with them I noticed problems in the links and situations that were making the game different, so we need to see them working together. My idea is that it can be done.”

And the coach is ready to use the system against Real Sociedad, on Thursday he tested a squad with Adrián joining Andone upfront, and with Cartabia and Bruno Gama entering by the wings. Lucas would start on the bench as he needs to gain match fitness.
