THINKING OF MÁLAGA & LAS PALMAS

25 Nov 2017
Parralo has five casualties for the game against Athletic, four of them took place during the past game at Málaga. These new problems arrive in the busiest week of November.

The past game with Málaga CF turned to be really expensive for Deportivo, not only for dropping three points before a direct rival, but also for the cost in terms of players. Up to four men that were starters in that game are now unavailable, two had to leave the pitch injured and the other two saw a fifth yellow card that means a suspension.

And these casualties are hitting the squad just in the busiest week of November, because in midweek Deportivo visit UD Las Palmas for the second-leg in Copa Del Rey (Wednesday, 21h30 CET), while in liga Depor host Athletic Club this Sunday (Riazor, 12h00 CET), and next Saturday The Galicians visits Sevilla CF (18h30 CET).

The two men that saw a fifth yellow card on the season and that are suspended for the liga game with Athletic are Luisinho and Guilherme, the latter is one of the two men at the squad that had performed in the twelve liga meetings played so far (the other is Cartabia).

Meanwhile, Sidnei Rechel was replaced at half-time of the meeting at La Rosaleda. The scans made during the week detected a grade I muscle injury on his left thigh. He is out for one or two weeks.  Zakaria Bakkali is the other player that got injured in the game against Málaga CF. The scans made to the Belgian winger detected a grade I/II muscle injury in the gastrocnemius muscle of his right leg, he could be out for a month.

And with Juanfran (hamstring) still out it means that coach Cristobal Parralo has five confirmed casualties for Sunday’s game. At least Adrián is back after surpassing a shoulder injury, the Asturian was even tested as a possible starter during the week. Also Carles Gil is available. The playmaker hasn’t had any minute on the season after been operated from a groin injury, his return was expected for December, but on Thursday the player received the medical okay to play and could have his first appearance of the season during next week.

Also, during this week it was known that Fede Cartabia is dragging a muscle injury that isn’t pulling him out of the games, but neither allows him to be 100% ready. It’s a complex muscle injury that affects the abdomen, the adductor muscle and the pubis region. The player constantly feels pain and it’s the reason why he skips training sessions. For the moment he’s following a conservative treatment, but if the situation doesn’t improve then he will need surgery.

The first rival in the busy week is Athletic Club, the Basques are not having the expected start of season, they have only won one of the last six games in liga and therefore are only one point above Depor, while they could arrive tired to the Riazor as they played on Thursday against Hertha Berlin for the UEFA Europa League. Since they needed the points they had to use normal starters and made a huge sacrifice as the Basques had to comeback twice to end winning 3-2.

For the game at the Riazor, the Lions will have two important casualties. Midfielder Beñat Etxebarria is out for an undefined period of time due to a groin injury, while winger Iker Muniain was operated in October from a knee injury and won’t return until 2018.

In the case of UD Las Palmas, they have a big advantage in Copa (4-1), but they are more concern of the situation in liga. The Canarians are now the last place at the standings and coach Pako Ayestarán could be fired if they don’t defeat Real Sociedad during the weekend, so Depor could end meeting a rival with a new coach.

There are three casualties at the Canarian team. The most sensitive one is winger Momo, who will be out until January due to a back injury. The ex-Depor scored twice in the first-leg. Meanwhile striker Oussama Tannane is out with an adductor injury, and playmaker Alen Halilović will return until 2018 after been operated from an ankle injury.
