REVIEW: CELTA B 0 – FABRIL 0 (SEGUNDA B)

26 Nov 2017
Serious game of a Fabril that could have won for the things done in the second half. Ismael Díaz and Pedro Alves had the best opportunities.

BEFORE THE GAME
Gustavo Munúa was still having the casualties of Óscar García, Carlos López, Lucas Viña, Luis, Bicho and Luismi, plus Edu Expósito, who was picked by the first team for the game against Athletic Club. Once again three lads from Juvenil A were picked for the game: Alejandro Pais ‘Sito’, Ortuño and Pedro Alves.

The lineup was a 4-2-3-1 figure with Francis Uzoho covering the goal, Blas Alonso performed at the right-back position, Quique Fornos and Raúl González were the centre-backs, Diego Caballo performed at the left. Martín Bengoa and Álvaro Queijeiro were the centre midfielders, Borja Galán attacked from the right wing. Jorje Romay was the playmaker, Ismael Díaz performed on the left flank and Uxío Dapena was the centre forward.

It was the ninth mini-derby playing at Segunda B, Celta B also arrived to the game been in promotion seats. The team coached by Rubén Albés arrived with Juan Hernández and Dejan Dražić as the main threats, combined both players have scored 9 of the 19 goals netted by the team in the league.

THE MATCH
Despite the casualties, Fabril made a serious game, not enough good to score goals, but solid enough to pick up a valuable point.  There was intensity and the lads responded despite the pressure of the environment.

The game started with a high pace, the locals were having the ball, while Fabril were trying to attack through quick counterattacks. The first shot was made by Dejan Dražić, but his shot from the edge of the area was an easy catch for Francis (2’).

The high pace of the first minutes wasn’t translated into scoring opportunities, because Celta B missed ideas to break the visiting defence after finding fluency at midfield, later because the attacks of Fabril lacked depth. Dennis had the next approximation for the locals, but his drilling shot missed the target (13’).

Fabril’s first approximation was a play of Borja Galán on the right wing, his low cross was searching for Romay, then b>Kevin deflected the ball inside the box and it almost ended in an own goal (23’). In the resulting corner-kick Diego Caballo found the ball at the edge of the area and his shot went over the crossbar.

At minute 29 Pastrana got the ball at the left side of the box after a collective play, but his shot was blocked by Blas Alonso.  Three minutes later Borja Galán missed the target in a direct free-kick action. At minute 37, Blas Alonso released a cross from the right and Uxío headed the ball out. The action was repeated at the last minute of the first half, this time the cross was released by Borja Galán and Romay was the one heading the ball out.

Fabril were looking better at the end of the first part, but ended the half without completing a shot on target. Things were very similar for the second half, the pace was high but both sides were not creating scoring opportunities.

Things started to change at minute 53 as the chances were finally arriving, at minute 53 Borja Galán collected the ball at the left side of the area, and his low and crossed volley went close to the far post of local goalie Jero Lario. In the next play Dražić was able to dribble two rivals plus Francis, but later sent the ball wide.

The first shot on target for Fabril came at minute 62, and it was a big opportunity for Depor’s lads. It was a long pass from the defence and into the path of Ismael Díaz, the Panamanian tried to chip the ball, but Jero deflected it.

Celta B replied with a big chance for Mangana, Francis failed at the moment of clearing a high cross, and later the midfielder missed the target firing from the edge of the area (66’).

Fabril had two straight opportunities at minute 80, first Caballo released a low shot that was blocked by Jero, in the next play the local keeper deflected a strong shot from Queijeiro Munúa moved the bench until the final ten minutes, Gaizka Martínez replaced Romay and later Pedro Alves debuted with Fabril claiming the spot of Uxio.

The Portuguese debutant had the last chance for Fabril, it was a downward header after a cross from the left and Jero made the save (87’). Depor’s lads ended the second half better and with the local keeper been the protagonist, but there were no goals.

AFTER THE GAME
Serious game of a Fabril that could have added the three if it would have seized the chances had in the second part. The lads remain second at the standings and in the next game they host Rápido de Bouzas (Abegondo, Sunday, 17h00 CET)

Comments by Munúa: “It was a game full of intensity, a typical derby as there was more contact than football. We had some clear chances in the first and second half, they also had their chances and the draw is fair. There was some nervousness and in some moments in the match we were able to find our game, but it didn’t happen in the rest of the meeting. We had some good combinations on the sides, but were unable to add the victory. Still, it’s always good not to lose. Today we had eight players out injured and luckily we could regain some.”
