FC Barcelona remain crushing the rivals and already have a 6-point gap at the top of la liga. Deportivo remain out of relegation as the last places suffered negative results.

An unexpected result is allowing FC Barcelona to increase the lead at the top of the league. The Catalans clinched an easy victory over Deportivo (4-0) and have now a gap of six points over the second place. This since Valencia CF lost for the second time on this season.

Los Ches were surprised at SD Eibar (2-1) and are now third at the standings, this since Atlético Madrid managed to defeat Alavés at home (1-0). It wasn’t an easy game for the Madrilenians as the goal of Fernando Torres arrived until minute 74. Now the only two undefeated teams in the competition are occupying the first two places.

Real Madrid remain fourth as their game with CD Leganés was postponed as they were taking part of the FIFA Clubs World Cup. Sevilla CF disappointed at home as they only got a goalless draw hosting Levante UD, still they remain fifth despite the important victory of Villarreal CF visiting RC Celta (0-1). Meanwhile, Girona FC clinched a second straight win, this time hosting Getafe CF (1-0) and are only one point below the European zone.

The situation at the top of the standings:

place team points GF GA
1 Barcelona 42 42 7
2 Atlético  36 25 7
3 Valencia 34 36 16
4 Real Madrid 31 30 11
5 Sevilla 29 19 19
6 Villarreal 24 23 20
7 Girona 23 20 22
8 Betis 21 25 29

The only good news for Deportivo was that they remain the same at the standings after the other teams trying to survive also failed. Málaga CF lost hosting Real Betis (0-2) and UD Las Palmas only got a point hosting RCD Espanyol (2-2).

That game left a bittersweet taste to both teams, the Catalans were winning 0-2 by minute 80, then the Canarians tied the actions and should have won, but Jonathan Viera missed a penalty during the stoppage time. Finally the goalless draw between Athletic Club and Real Sociedad just leave them at mid-table.

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

place team points GF GA
16 Espanyol 17 13 21
17 Deportivo 15 18 31
18 Alavés 12 12 25
19 Málaga 11 13 30
20 Las Palmas 11 13 36

It’s a weird matchday to close the year 2017. The ten games will be played in a frame of five days due to the Christmas break, and there are three derbies, all of them to be played on Saturday: El Clásico with Real Madrid hosting FC Barcelona, the Valencia derby with Valencia CF hosting Villarreal CF, and the last game of the year is the Galician derby with Deportivo hosting RC Celta.

The other seven games in the matchday are: Levante UD Vs. CD Leganés; Getafe CF Vs. UD Las Palmas; Real Sociedad Vs. Sevilla CF; SD Eibar VS. FC Girona; Alavés Vs. Málaga CF; Real Betis Vs. Athletic Club & RCD Espanyol Vs. Atlético Madrid.
