DEPORTIVO IN JANUARY

02 Jan 2018
Tough month for Deportivo, the team is in relegation and faces three of the clubs currently in European seats. The month ends with a direct meeting with a rival also fighting for the permanence.

Deportivo need results in order to revert the current bad situation, and January doesn’t seem to be the right place to get those needed points. And it’s that three of the four games in the month are against teams currently in European positions.

The first rival of 2018 is the current sixth place: Villarreal CF. It has been a season of ups and downs for the yellow submarine, but they arrive to the meeting after chaining two straight victories on the road including a victory in the Valencian derby.

The first home game in the new year will be the one hosting Valencia CF. Los Ches had a strong start and were even aspiring to the title in liga, but they lost some stamina lately after losing three of the last four games in the competition.

Real Madrid is the third rival in the month as Depor visit the Bernabéu. Los Blancos lived a fantastic 2017 clinching six titles, but the fact of been so far of Barcelona in the current liga tournament and when the first round hasn’t ended yet, plus the humiliation in el Clásico, are forcing them to start the new year with a bittersweet taste in the mouth.

January ends with a direct meeting with a rival also fighting for the permanence: Levante UD. The Valencians had a positive start in their return to the elite, but now they are only four points above Depor after only picking three points in their last five liga matches.
