FIRST ROUND 2017/18: POOR NUMBERS FOR DEPOR

16 Jan 2018
One of the poorest first rounds on the century, Depor are in relegation and with big defensive problems. Eight men already surpassed the mark of 1,000 minutes.

Deportivo only added 16 points in the first round, the lowest number on this century tied with the number of points added in the campaign 2012/13, year of the last relegation to Segunda División. The Galician outfit only clinched 4 victories and 4 draws, while it lost the remaining 11 games.

The team is currently in relegation, it only spent four matchdays there in the first round, but Los Blanquiazules constantly were unable to put a distance with the pit, mainly as they hardly chained two straight league games adding points.

Actually, it only happened once with Depor defeating Getafe CF at the Riazor (2-1, matchday 07) and one week later adding a goalless draw visiting SD Eibar (matchday 08). The only constant thing were the individual errors leading to goals.

Just to have in mind that Depor opened the season with Rubén Martínez committing an error in the first goal allowed against Real Madrid (0-3, matchday 01), and the first round ended in the same way with the Galician keeper failing again in the first goal before Valencia CF (1-2, matchday 19).

Thus, Deportivo allowed 37 goals in the first round, only last-place UD Las Palmas allowed more in the period (46). The last time Depor allowed more goals in a first round was in the previously mentioned campaign 2012/13 (40).

Los Blanquiazules were normally uphill in the games. Of the 37 goals allowed on the first round, 9 of were allowed before the 15-minute mark. Also, Depor conceded the first goal in 13 of the 19 games on the period.

Depor have suffered a lot, even in the victories, because three of the four wins came with a narrow score: 1-0 Vs. Alavés (matchday 05), 2-1 Vs. Getafe (matchday 07) and 1-0 Vs. CD Leganés (matchday 15). The only time Deportivo won with a difference of two or more goals was in the 1-3 win at UD Las Palmas (matchday 10), and that with the team coming from behind in the second half.

PLAYERS NUMBERS
26 players had minutes in the first round, no one played in the 19 matches of the period, Borges, Guilherme and Juanfran made 18 appearances and eight men already surpassed the mark of 1000 minutes: Juanfran (1614), Guilherme (1535), Borges (1417), Schär (1320), Sidnei (1306), Luisinho (1272), Lucas (1200) and Cartabia (1132).

Andone is the top-scorer with 5 goals in favour, 3 o them netted within the last 3 matchdays. Lucas has scored 4 times and Adrián 3. The latter is the best assistor (3), while Andone has 2 assists.
