THE WINTER MARKET OF DEPORTIVO

01 Feb 2018
Three arrivals and four exits, it’s the summary of Depor in the winter window. The club tried to complete a fourth signing on deadline day, a new centre midfielder, but nothing occurred.

Deportivo closed the winter window having 24 players at the first team, and with the fans having the same doubts about the level of the squad. The intention of the club was to sign a goalkeeper, a right-back defender and a defensive centre midfielder. The club made the first two moves, but not the third. Truly Depor signed three players within the period, but one was considered as an “opportunity” in the market.

That’s why the fans were expecting the arrival of a defensive midfielder on deadline day, but the club didn’t close any of the targets and only completed the exits of Pantilimon and Bruno Gama. President Tino Fernández will address the media on Thursday in order to explain the situation. It isn’t ruled out the option of signing a free agent, something that’s possible since there’s one slot available at the squad.

The Blanquiazul club made three signings in January. Right-back defender Eneko Bóveda came in a zero-cost transfer after rescinding with Athletic Club, the same day Ukrainian goalkeeper Maksím Kóval was signed on loan from Dinamo Kiev, then midfielder Michael Krohn-Dehli was signed in a transfer for an undisclosed fee.

Finally, the club allowed the exit of four players in the window. Left-back Saúl García was loaned to Segunda club CD Numancia, while centre-back Alejandro Arribas was sold to Mexican Pumas for €1.5 million. The final operations were to rescind the contract of winger Bruno Gama and the loan deal with Watford FC for keeper Costel Pantilimon.
