PANTILIMON & BRUNO GAMA LEAVE DEPOR

01 Feb 2018
The arrival of Maksím Kóval meant the exit of Pantilimon, the Romanian keeper left many doubts in the few games he played and the club decided to rescind the loan deal with Watford FC. Bruno Gama also rescinded his contract.

Costel Pantilimon is returning to the Premier League after a failed stage at Deportivo. The Galician club cancelled the loan deal with Watford FC, club that will now send him loaned to Nottingham Forest at the Football League Championship.

The Romanian arrived to Depor as an emergency backup after the injury of Rubén Martínez. He debuted on September 16 in the 2-1 defeat at Real Betis, he left doubts since that match, but stayed as the starting keeper during the entire month.

He was then benched after Rubén returned and his last opportunities came in the games against UD Las Palmas (3-1 win) and Atletico Madrid (0-1 loss). In the latter he failed in the free-kick that meant the goal for the Madrilenians and never returned to play for Depor after it.

It was commented that he had a back problem that didn’t allow him to attempt diving saves. The news was never confirmed by the club, but the fact is that Pantilimon never played against and was left on the bench since then.

Before leaving the Romanian talked to Deporte Campeón and said that he wasn’t disappointed, “I am not disappointed. It was good for me. In five months I built something, I felt fine, I even started to talk in Spanish and made good friends in a good team. I’m proud and happy, but life is like this, sometimes you must make changes, but I leave friends on here and surely will come back to see them.”

In the case of Bruno Gama, the winger rescinded his contract late on Wednesday. He never earned a spot since his return to the club. He was considered as a big asset in the first season at Segunda (2011/12); it had to leave by the back door during the season 2013/14 due to a problem with the salary cap.

The Portuguese returned on last season, but never earned the same weight of his previous stage. He made 22 appearances and barely had an impact. For the present campaign he only made six league appearances (112 minutes) and was frequently left out of the rosters.

The exits of Pantilimon and Bruno Gama raise the number of departures during the winter window to four. The previous ones were the transfer of centre-back Alejandro Arribas and the loan of left-back Saúl García.
