THINKING OF ZARAGOZA

25 Jan 2007
>Caparr??s still has to decide if he will continue with the 4-4-2 formation or if he will the change the strategy for the visit of Deportivo to Zaragoza (Sunday 17h00). The absences of Capdevila and especially of Riki are giving a lot to think of to the Sevillan coach. Filipe, Rodri, Taborda, Juan Rodr?guez and Verd?? are some of the options that he has in order to replace these absences.

For the first time in 2007, coach Joaqu?n Caparr??s is thinking of changing the formation in la liga. He has played with the same men and a 4-4-2 figure during the victory over Real Madrid (2-0) and the draws against Recreativo (1-1) and Espanyol (0-0). But now, the absence of two players are giving difficulties to the Sevillan coach. Joan Capdevila and Riki saw their fifth yellow card of the season in the game with Espanyol, and both are suspended for the trip to Zaragoza.

The absence of Capdevila could be covered with Filipe Luis or even with Rodri (he still negotiating a possible exit to Almeria or C??diz), but the most notorious absence is Riki. The Madrilian partnership in the striking zone between Riki and Arizmendi is one of the reasons that explains the good moment lived by Deportivo.

Now, Caparr??s is thinking seriously of changing the strategy. The main candidate to replace Riki should be Valer??n, but it isn't probable that the doctors will put him on risk after the Canarian suffered a new complication during the past week. If Caparr??s wants to maintain the 4-4-2 system, the most probable option is to play with Sebasti??n Taborda alongside Arizmendi. The Madrilain would play behind the Uruguayan, while Estoyanoff and Cristian will continue on the wings.

The other option is to change the 4-4-2 figure into a 4-2-3-1 formation. For this, Caparr??s would probably trust in Joan Verd??, the Catalan could recycle the figure of the playmaker in the squad, while De Guzm??n and Duscher will cover his back. This strategy will mean that Arizmendi will be the lone striker in Depor's lineup. Another alternative is to play with Juan Rodr?guez in that position, this last option will mean a more defensive squad since the Andalucian is used to performing as a pivote.

Today's training session will be important in order to know what's the final decision of Caparr??s. It's expected that the duo Andrade-Arbeloa will continue on the centre of the defence, a situation that's possible since Lopo hasn't been OK, he has been suffering of strong headaches during the week and the Catalan hasn't trained with normality.

Meanwhile, in Zaragoza things aren't going so well. The squad is occupying a UEFA position, but the latest results of the team aren't good. Los Ma?±os have only added 8 of the last 21 points and it seems that the team is losing gas. V?ctor Fern??ndez's team started strongly at home after they won five of the six first matches at La Romareda, but everything changed since the visit of Osasuna (1-2), and Zaragoza has only won one of the last four games at home (2-1 Vs Sevilla).

One of the problems for V?ctor Fern??ndez is that Carlos Diogo is suspended. The Uruguayan was sanctioned with five games after he had a huge fight with Luis Fabiano. Besides, Albert Celades suffered a muscular injury in yesterday's training and should be a doubt for Sunday's game. At least Fern??ndez will recover defender Gabril Milito who missed the last game for suspension (0-0 with Recreativo).
