The first team and Fabril are closed for the new season. 24 players to attempt the promotion to Primera, while Fabril has a full room of 25 lads.

The transition from Primera to Segunda División is always hard, but in this case it wasn’t as traumatic as in the previous relegation. Many of this had to do with the presence of Carmelo Del Pozo. The new sporting director had a protagonic role since day one as he took control of the whole situation, he was even the only one present during the presentations and normally speaking to the media once per week.

Perhaps the main problem is that he wasn’t able to succeed at the moment of keeping a short squad, because the first team ended composed by 24 men. The same happened with a Fabril that also ended with 25 players. On Friday, Del Pozo was trying to explain the issue remembering the promotion of Caballo from Fabril, “Truly the squad is large and we ended with more players of what we thought, but you have to see why this happened. At the left-back position there was a very good situation for us, which was the promotion of Caballo.”

Major facelift at the first team, 20 players from last season left the club, only 7 stayed and there were 13 signings plus 2 promotions from Fabril and 2 men that returned from loan spells. So, Depor is once again facing a season with practically a new squad. The good thing is the positive balance at the moment of comparing the incomes for the exits with the cost of the arrivals.

Twelve players left among the players under contract after the announced departures of Florin Andone, Emre Çolak, Róber, Tytoń , Juanfran, Albentosa, Fabian Schär, Sidnei, Diego Rolán, Celso Borges, Luisinho and Guilherme. Other eight men left Deportivo after ended their contracts or loan spells: Rubén Martinez, Kóval, Fernando Navarro, Fede Valverde, Zakaria Bakkali, Muntari, Adrián López and Lucas Pérez.

These exits (without including amounts paid for loans) are reporting €16 million to the club: Andone (€6.3 million paid by Brighton), Sidnei (€3.5 million paid by Betis), Schär (€3.5 million paid by Newcastle), Celso Borges (€1.5 million paid by Göztepe), Çolak (€1 million paid by  Al-Wehda) and Luisinho (€200,000 paid by Huesca)

Meanwhile, the club completed 13 signings: Goalkeepers Dani Giménez and David Ortolá, right-back David Simón, left-back Sebastián Dubarbier, centre-backs Pablo Mari, Michele Somma and Domingos Duarte, winger Pedro Sánchez, midfielders Didier Moreno and Vicente Gómez plus strikers Christian Santos, Carlos Fernández and Quique González

The Galician club only paid a transfer in the cases of Quique González (€1.7 million to CA Osasuna) and Vicente Gómez (€600,000), the rest were nine zero-cost transfers plus four loan deals. The four deals include either a buyout option or a match-offer option (the cases of Domingos Duarte and Carlos Fernández)

Apart is the case of Diego Rolan. Depor signed the Uruguayan strike from FC Girondins in a deal that some sources estimated in €5.5 million. He is currently playing loaned at Leganés with the Madrilenians having a buyout option for an undisclosed fee.

Taking in mind that the coach likes to play with a 4-3-1-2 formation, there are at least two players per position. The exception is the left-back position, the centre- of the defence and the role of attacker. In these three positions there’s an additional men in case the coach needs it.

First team for the season 2018/19:
Goalkeepers: Dani Giménez & David Ortolá
Defenders: David Simón, Gerard Valentín, Eneko Bóveda, Michele Somma, Domingos Duarte, Pablo Mari, Diego Caballo, Sebastián Dubarbier & Saúl García.
Midfielders: Álex Bergantiños, Pedro Mosquera, Didier Moreno, Michael Krohn-Dehli, Vicente Gómez, Edu Expósito, Carles Gil, Fede Cartabia & Pedro Sánchez
Strikers: Borja Valle, Quique Fernández, Christian Santos & Carlos Fernández.

The second team is also facing big movements. Only 11 lads are staying from last season, which was the best one in the history of the team ending as the runner-up at Segunda B. There are 8 signings, while the remaining 6 players are promotions from Juvenil A.

In this case it was necessary to make last-minute movements, Francis was loaned to Elche CF, so it was necessary to sign a new keeper, and the club chose Pedro Lópezcoming from Real Betis. This operation was closed on Wedesday, only day later the club signed two more attackers: Jonathan Montiel & Víctor García.

Fabril’s team for the season 2018/19:
