Problems for Natxo González as three of the four strikers are out of Sunday’s game; Cartabia and Krohn-Dehli return.

Deportivo return to the Riazor and do it facing one of the biggest rivals in the league: Sporting Gijón (Sunday, 20h45 CET). The attention has been divided between the problems to fit the public at the stadium due to the delay in the remodeling of the roof and the casualties hitting the offensive line. For this reason the fact that Depor face a busy week with three games in a frame of seven days is passing unnoticed. In midweek the team faces the second round in Copa Del Rey visiting Real Zaragoza (Wednesday, 21h00 CET).

Coach Natxo González has seen how the striking line has been affected by the injuries. Striker Quique González was early replaced in the second half facing CD Tenerife, the scans detected a grade II injury on the Gastrocnemius muscle of his right leg. He will be out for at least three weeks.

During the same meeting striker Borja Valle picked a knock and playmaker Carles Gil suffered an external obturator muscle injury (hip) Both men didn’t train the whole week. Valle is officially out of Sunday’s game, while Gil will make a late test on Saturday in order to see if he is available.

And to make things worse, Christian Santos is unavailable as he is concentrated with Venezuela’s national team (the matchday is played during the international break). Therefore, the only centre forward available for the game is Carlos Fernández, who started to train with the group on Sunday. The coach already said that he isn’t fit to play for 90 minutes.

But there are good news too, Fede Cartabia surpassed an ankle sprain and received the medical okay to play, while Michael Krohn-Dehli returns from a two-game suspension. So, the coach is missing three of his four strikers, but counts with at least eight of his nine midfielders.

At Sporting Gijón, the team coached by Rubén Baraja has had a strong start, but also faces the game with casualties, though none of them are sensitive cases. There are five players out for the visit to the Riazor: Striker Nick Blackman (soleus), midfielder Isma Cerro plus left-backs Roberto Canella and Javi Noblejas (the trio with muscle problems) are out for injury reasons. Also, centre midfielder Robin Lod is concentrated with Finland national team.

There are other three players doubtful for the weekend: keeper Dani Martin is retuning from a finger fracture and it isn’t clear if he could be picked, while right wingers Pelayo Morilla (knee) and Álvaro Traver (muscle) haven’t trained at the same pace during the week and could be rested.
