PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO – GRANADA (LIGA)

24 Sep 2018
Depor search for the second victory at home, with some novelties at the squad like the presence of Saúl García at the left side of the defence. Granada CF is the only team at Segunda that haven’t been trailing in this start of season.

Referee: Álvaro Moreno Aragón
Kick-off: 21h00 CET (Riazor)

STATISTICS: HARD RIVAL FOR THE RIAZOR
Deportivo have been unable to beat Granada CF during its last seven visits to the Riazor, in the period the Galician team only picked four draws in seven meetings, among the defeats is the 0-3 of the campaign 2012/13 that caused the exit of Domingos Paciência. The last home victory over Granada CF took place during the Segunda season 1979/80: 1-0 (November 25, 1979).

The Andalusian outfit arrives to this game as one of the four teams that remain undefeated and the only one that haven’t been trailing after five matchdays. They have added three wins and two draws in the period and are four points behind leaders Málaga CF. Meanwhile, Depor are aware that a victory in this meeting will put them inside the promotion seats for the first time on the season.

DEPORTIVO: PUSHING FOR COMPETENCE
For the second straight week coach Natxo González isn’t going to release the roster for a game until the same day of the meeting. He did it before when the team was on the road for Copa Del Rey, and now does it in a long week with the players at Abegondo.

Beyond been a measure trying to hide the cards to the media and the rival, it is a procedure trying to stimulate the competence inside the squad. He wants to see the players pushing until the end in order to enter the roster, something always difficult due to the large number of players at the squad.

Natxo gave several clues about the possible lineup during the trainings, he also announced during his press conference that Saúl García is going to be a starter on the left side of the defence. The rest is the normal team that have been playing recently with the possible novelty of Pedro Mosquera claiming the spot of Álex Bergantiños.

Team news: Striker Quique González is set to return and should be included into the roster. The players at the injury room are Dubarbier, Caballo and Borja Valle. Midfielder Michael Krohn-Dehli is suspended after been sent off in the past gam with AD Alcorcón. Two men will be ruled out on Monday.

Man to watch: Left-back Saúl García. It looks weird, but this is the first liga game of the Cantabrian defender since landing at the club in 2015. The casualties of Dubarbier an Caballo are leaving him as the only left-back available for a month, a great opportunity for a player that spent the whole deadline day at the door out.

Picked players: The roster will be released on Monday.

Predicted lineup: (4-3-1-2) Dani Giménez – David Simón, Pablo Mari, Domingos Duarte, Saúl – Vicente Gómez, Mosquera, Didier Moreno – Carles Gil – Cartabia, Carlos Fernández.

GRANADA: SOLID START
Dreamed start for Granada CF, one of the disappointments from last season. The Andalusians are the only team that haven’t been trailing after five matchdays and are considered as a candidate to promotion, now they visit the Riazor trying to prove that their aspirations are real. Coach Diego Martínez has marked that his team is from a different league compared to Depor, but believes that a team with personality can make the difference in this game.

Team news: Centre midfielder Nico Aguirre wasn’t fit enough and wasn’t included in the roster for the game, but Ángel Montoro and Adrián Ramos surpassed their muscle problems and will be at the Riazor.

Man to watch: Attacker Antonio Puertas. He has been performing as a left winger and, after not scoring any goal last season, he has now netter five times after five presentations. He is on fire after scoring braces in the last two games against Extremadura UD and Rayo Majadahonda.

Picked players: (19) Rui Silva, Aarón Escandell (goalkeepers); Álex Martínez, José Antonio Martínez, Germán Sánchez, Víctor Díaz, Quini, Adri Castellano (defenders); Álvaro Vadillo, Fede San Emeterio, Alejandro Pozo, Antonio Puertas, Fede Vico, Ángel Montoro, Alberto Martín, José Antonio González (midfielders); Rodri Ríos, Adrián Ramos & Juancho López (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Rui Silva – Álex Martínez, Germán Sánchez, José Martínez, Víctor Díaz – Pozo, San Emeterio – Vadillo, Fede Vico, Puertas – Adrián Ramos.
