REVIEW: BURGOS 2 – FABRIL 1 (SEGUNDA B)

24 Sep 2018
New defeat for a Fabril that remains winless and sunk at the standings. The team claimed the lead and had chances to double the advantage in the first half; in the second it was simply overpowered by the rival.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Tito Ramallo lost winger Bicho for injury reasons. The draw was a 4-2-3-1 figure and there were novelties in defence with Quique Fornos and Steve One. The team was still searching for the first win of the season.

Álex Cobo was the starting goalie, Fornos covered the right side in defence, Lucas Viña played on the left, One and Raúl González were the centre-backs. Iago Gandoy and Javi Cobo were the centre midfielders, Guillermo May attacked from the left wing, Víctor García did it from the right, Jony Montiel was the playmaker and Uxío Dapena was the centre forward.

The rival was Burgos CF, another team winless on this start of the Segunda B season. The team from Castile & Leon is coached by José Manuel Mateo and was relying in veteran Diego Cervero for the goals.

THE MATCH
Fifth game on the season and, for the second opportunity, the team ended dropping points after taking the lead. The team continued to lack strength in attack, while it hasn’t been unable to hold on the pressure when the rival pushes for a result.

The first chance to score came at minute 4, Cervero picked a cross from the right and he sent the ball over the crossbar. The locals were having a better disposition, Fabril were moving the ball fast, but later lacked depth to create scoring chances.

Fabril’s first approximation came at minute 17, Montiel and May combined and the action ended with a shot from the edge of the area released by Uxio that was deflected. Then Víctor García was close to score after connecting a corner-kick and local goalie Maikel Saizar made the save (24’).

Neither Yaw Annor nor Cervero were able to end a good attack for Burgos CF, and in the counterattack Jony Montiel sent the ball out (28’). At this height the game was equal, paused and without excitement.

Then things changed as Fabril found the goal, a lateral free-kick was taken by Montiel and his cross was deflected by Raúl González at the far post. The goal opened the road to the counterattack and Fabril were close to score in three opportunities.

First, a counterattack lead by Víctor García left Montiel alone against the local keeper, but he couldn’t resolve in the one-on-one and Jaso cleared the danger (44’), then Víctor missed the target after collecting the ball at the right (45+2’).  The last was a long-distance attempt of Montiel that went out close to the crossbar (45+4’). Fabril had the game there and it was going to pay the price in the second part.

The second half started with Burgos CF trying to push, Fabril started to feel choked as it wasn’t finding the same room for the counterattack. At minute 52, Jaso released a low shot that was saved by Álex Cobo. Only one minute later the locals were scoring the equalizer. Yaw Annor found the ball inside the area to beat Álex Cobo from close range.

There was no reaction from Fabril and the locals caressed the second goal with a low shot of Undabarrena that was saved by Álex Cobo (59’). And the keeper couldn’t do anything before the low attempt of Asier Goti that meant the second for the locals. The assist was made by Cervero.

Ramallo barely had time to react, at this point the team was lost and the only substitution made was the entry of Juan Jesús Argüez ‘Juanje’ for May, then Ortuño and Pedro Correia entered the field and Fabril started to attack, but it was Burgos CF the side closer to score with the free-kick of Adrian Cruz that hit the post (90+2’)

AFTER THE GAME
New disappointment for Fabril, the team claimed the lead and was close to score again at the end of the first part, but in the second everything fell apart as soon as the rival put pressure closing the space at the back. The team is no penultimate with only one point in favour, the next game is the visit of CF Salmantino to Abegondo (Sunday, 12h00 CET).
