REVIEW: FABRIL 1 – SALMANTINO 0 (SEGUNDA B)

01 Oct 2018
First victory on the season, Fabril had the best opportunities, but suffered before a willful rival. Pedro López saved a penalty in his debut with the team.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Tito Ramallo was still missing winger Bicho for injury reasons. The draw was a 4-2-3-1 figure and was full of novelties, like the debut of keeper Pedro López or the presence of Juan Jesús Argüez ‘Juanje’ and Carlos López as starters.

Pedro López was the starting goalie, Quique Fornos covered the right side in defence, Lucas Viña played on the left, Steve One and Mujaid were the centre-backs. Carlos López and Javi Cobo were the centre midfielders, Juanje attacked from the left wing, Víctor García did it from the right, Jony Montiel was the playmaker and Guillermo May was the centre forward.

The rival as CF Salmantino, another team with problems in this start of season. The team coached by José Miguel Campos was also in relegation after only winning once and was relying in Kwabena Owusu and Fer Ruiz for the goals. Ex-Fabril Manu Molina was the playmaker in the formation.

THE MATCH
It was an equal game as both sides had their opportunities and their good moments, Fabril had enough with the initial push and later saw how the rival wasted its opportunities, including a penalty saved by Pedro López.

Fabril started dominating and Jony Montiel completed the first shot on target that was saved by visiting goalie Dani Sotres (6’). And after a triple chance for the locals, the resulting corner-kick ended with the cross of Jony Montiel that Fornos headed inside the area for the first goal.

After the goal, CF Salmantino gave a step forward and had presence in attack without having clear chances to score. Fabril seemed content with the advantage and wasn’t creating opportunities, but neither was suffering in defence.

The next chance was a long-distance attempt of Juanje that went out (27’). These kinds of play were the main threat of Fabril in the game, while CF Salmantino was relying in the speed of Owusu. At minute 31, May missed the target from the edge of the area.

Salmantino could have scored the equalizer at the last minute, this after earning a penalty in a latera free-kick in which the ball hit the arm of Fornos, but Pedro López saved with the feet the shot from the spot by Pablo González.

The game was equal at the start of the second part, Pablo González had the first chance for the visiting team, he picked the ball inside the area in a cross from Fer Ruiz, but in the end the midfielder missed the target (12’). Two minutes later Pablo González missed again the chance to tie the meeting.

May could have scored the second at minute 64, but his header after a free-kick hit the woodwork after a deflection by Dani Sotres.  In the counterattack the visiting side was close to score, but Fer Ruiz didn’t find the ball inside the area.

At minute 70, a long-distance attempt of Carlos López went close to the crossbar. Then Ramallo ordered the first substitution and Uxío Dapena replaced Montiel. The draw still was a 4-2-3-1 as May delayed his position playing behind Uxío.

Moussa Camara entered the pitch and Salmantino ended the game with two strikers on the pitch. Ramallo responded with Villarres replacing Juanje. The attacker was tired and the modification was trying to keep control of midfield territory. Gaizka Martínez was the last substitution replacing Carlos López.

The best chance for Salmantino in the last stretch was a corner-kick in which no one was able to push the ball in from inside the area (83’). Fabril was close to score the second in the added time, but the big play of Villarres ended in a save by Dani Sotres (90+1’).

AFTER THE GAME
Fabril had enough with the big push at the start of the game and secured the first win of the campaign. Truly the locals had the best opportunities, including a header of May that ended hitting the post, but CF Salmantino also made a big effort and ended failing a penalty blocked by debutant Pedro López.  Fabril remains in relegation, but now only one point away from safety. The next game is the visit to CD Guijuelo (Sunday, 18h30 CET)
