REVIEW: FABRIL 1 – LAS PALMAS B 1 (SEGUNDA B)

19 Nov 2018
New disappointment for Fabril, the lads were the better side in big part of the game, but only rescued a point that isn’t enough in the quest for the permanence.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Sergio Pellicer was only missing Bicho for injury reasons. The coach was at the stands after been sent off against Pontevedra CF, so Manuel Pablo was the man sitting on the bench. Pedro López was returning to the goal, while Juanje returned into the let wing. The rest was the same team of the 2-2 draw at Pontevedra CF.

The draw was a 4-2-3-1 figure. Pedro López was the starting goalie, Blas Alonso covered the right side in defence, Lucas Viña played on the left, Quique Fornos and Steve One were the centre-backs. Carlos López and Iago Gandoy were the centre midfielders, Juanje attacked from the left wing, Víctor García did it from the right, Joni Montiel was the playmaker and Uxío Dapena was the centre forward.

The rival was UD Las Palmas Atlético, the B squad of Las Palmas arrived to this game lying only four points below the promotion zone, though also in a bad moment after only winning one of the previous five games. Coach Juan Manuel Rodríguez was relying in Roberto Núñez for the goals.

THE MATCH
Fabril played a good game, it was better in the major part of the meeting, but pay the price for the distractions at the start of the second part. The first approximation for Fabril was a low shot of Carlos López that missed the target (2’).

The locals started to have the ball possession, but lacked depth to create scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, the visiting side was more vertical, in their first approximation they were close to score after Edu Espiau found the ball at the edge of the area and his shot was deflected (12’). In the resulting corner-kick Pedro López made a great save, though Robert was offside.

Uxio should have scored at minute 16. A good combination in a counterattack between Montiel and Juanje allowed the latter to release a low cross from the left, the striker was alone enough inside the box to just push the ball in, but instead he ended missing the target.

Then the locals scored the first goal in the meeting. It was a corner-kick of Montiel from the left, his cross was met by Quique Fornos at the far post to end crossing visiting goalie Josep Martínez. After the goal, Las Palmas B started to have the ball, but this time it missed the verticality of the first minutes, while Fabril was dangerous in the counterattack

Uxío was giving a lot of problems to Ls Palmas B, the counterattacks were always looking for him and the visiting defence had big problems marking him. Juanje and Montiel were also pretty active. The best chance in the last frame of the first half was a short-distance attempt of Lucas Viña saved by Josep (36’).

Las Palmas B found an early equalizer in the second half. It was a combination between Edu Espiau and Kirian, the latter drilled the ball into the path of Robert Nuñez, who scored drilling the ball under Pedro López.

The goal affected Fabril and La Palmas B was close to score at minute 51, Kirian found a loose ball at the edge of the area after a corner-kick and his low shot was deflected by a rival and miraculously went out close to the far post (51’).

Fabril started to regain control of the game and Iago Gandoy was close to score at minute 56 with a shot from the edge of the area that went out. One minute later Víctor García headed out a high cross from the left.

The first substitution at Fabril was the entry of Adrián Castro for Juanje. Víctor Garcia had a great chance at minute 64. Montiel stole the ball at midfield and assisted the winger, who hit the net by the outside firing from the right side of the area.

Adrián Castro had the next big chance. Again a counterattack for the locals caused big problems to the Canarians. Uxio assisted Adrian Castro at the edge of the area and his shot as saved by Josep (70’).

The second substitution at Fabril was the entry of Javi Cobo for Gandoy. Steve One had the next opportunity for Fabril. His downward header after a corner-kick was saved by Josep (74’). Montiel was close to score again after firing from the right side of the area, and again Josep made the save (80’).

Guillermo May replaced Victor García as Fabril tried to find a late goal, but it wasn’t possible. The last chance for the locals was a new attempt from Montiel, he found the ball at the edge of the area, but his low shot was too easy for Josep (90+3’).
