Victory under the rain; the pitch didn’t allow to practice good football, but the game was attractive as both sides did their best. Osasuna had the ball, but the Galicians were more effective.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Natxo González presented the expected 4-3-1-2 lineup which included to see the return of Fede Cartabia, Carlos Fernández and Michael Krohn-Dehli. Also, Adrián Ortolá was recovered after been ill and was the substitute keeper.

Ex-Depor keeper Rubén Martínez was a starter in the game. It was raining in A Coruña during Saturday, there were flooded streets and the pitch was in poor conditions.

FIRST HALF
Deportivo surpassed the weather conditions and managed to get the advantage, it was tough to play good football, but the Galicians had the best opportunities. The pace was high in the first minutes, but there were no clear chances to score as the players were getting used to the poor conditions of the pitch.

Depor were having the initiative and their first approximation was a cross of Carlos Fernández that was cleared before reaching the path of Quique González (9’). CA Osasuna had its first opportunity at minute 13, a lateral free-kick was connected by Unai and he missed the target, and in the next play a cross of David García was headed by Quique González and Rubén Martínez made the save.

Roberto Torres completed the first shot on target for the visiting side and Dani Giménez made the save (18’). At minute 26, Cartabia made a solo-play after a throw-in, his cross hit the arm of a defender, but the referee said it was corner-kick and not a penalty.

Krohn-Dehli had a good chance after collecting the ball at the left corner of the area, but his low and crossed shot missed the target (37). And Depor got the advantage before half-time, Cartabia found the ball at the left side of the area after a rebound, he released a low cross and Carlos Fernández was at the box to push the ball in.

It was a deserved lead for Deportivo, the Galicians had the best chances and the initiative. Unai García had the chance to tie the game before the break, but his attempt after a corner-kick was deflected by Dani Giménez (45+1’).

SECOND HALF
CA Osasuna tried and pushed forward, it ended having the ball possession, but Depor knew how to play against the elements and found a second goal to certify the victory.  The final part started with Saúl García missing the target after connecting the ball in a corner-kick (49’). The game followed the same path as it was difficult to pass the ball due to the excess of water on the pitch.

Carlos Fernández had the next chance (55’). A collective play on the left ended with a cross of Cartabia that Carlos connected in an acrobatic position, but it was a difficult for him to give strength to the attempt and Rubén caught the ball without problems.

CA Osasuna made a step forward and started to have opportunities in set-pieces, Natxo ordered the first substitution and Edu Expósito replaced Krohn-Dehli. Then Cartabia was close to score. The Argentine playmaker attempted a curved shot from the edge of the area that Rubén deflected and later the ball hit the far post (64’).

Christian Santos was the second substitution as he replaced Quique González. Depor’s top-scorer wasn’t noticed in offensive tasks during the game, but he was fighting hard in defence and completed one clearance and stole the ball in two opportunities.

And then Depor found the second goal, a corner-kick of Cartabia from the left was found by Pablo Mari at the box, and his downward header entered in by the far post. The goal brought calm for Depor, though CA Osasuna were still pushing.

The Navarrans had a double chance in a lateral free-kick (84’), first Unai headed the cross of Rubén García and Dani Giménez made a spectacular save, later the keeper blocked the shot of Oier (84’). The last substitution was the entry of Didier Moreno for Vicente Gómez.
