DEPORTIVO IN JANUARY

01 Jan 2019
Complicate start in 2019 for Deportivo, the team faces rivals that are growing in the Segunda tournament as the second round begins.

Four matches are waiting for Deportivo in January in order to launch the new year. The main characteristic is that the four rivals represent teams in a good moment before the Christmas break, three of them are aspirants to promotion.

It all starts with the Galician derby against CD Lugo. Los Albivermellos aren’t living the season that they were expecting, because they are currently closer to relegation (4 points) than to promotion (11 points), but for the second time on the season they have spent three games without losing (one victory and two draws) and aspire to keep evolving.

The second round starts with the home game against Albacete Balompié, the calendar is symmetric this season, which means the order of the first round isn’t the same of the second, but in this case Depor are facing the same rival of the debut, and it’s a tough one as Los Manchegos are the most in-form team in the league adding 16 of the last 18 points in dispute, reason why they are surprisingly second at the standings.

January ends with the visit to Sporting Gijón, it was a bad start to the season for the Asturians, Rubén Baraja was sacked and José Alberto López was promoted from the B team and Sporting hasn’t lost since then (5 games in liga and 1 in Copa). Now they are ascending and are only six points under the promotion zone and represent the only Segunda team that remains alive in Copa Del Rey:
