Fabril still improving, but at these stages it isn’t enough as the team needs victories. Two games without allowing goals with Luisito, but the lads remain at the bottom of the standings.

Luisito was directing his second game commanding Fabril. Jonathan Montiel debuted with the first team in the match against Nástic, but the playmaker made the trip for the game and was a starter. The same with Ignacio Abeledo, who was also picked for the match at the Riazor. Lucas Viña was out injured.

The draw was a 4-3-3. Álex Cobo was the starting goalie, Jorge Valín covered the right side in defence, Juanmi Carrión played on the left, Quique Fornos and Steve One were the centre-backs. The centre midfielders were Carlos López, Ignacio Abeledo and Arturo Segado. the trio in attack was composed by Víctor García, Jonathan Montiel and Uxío Dapena.

The rival was CF Salmantino, a direct rival in the fight for the permanence. Actually, a victory in this game would have left the distance with the wished permanence in only eight points for Fabril. Coach Antonio Calderón was relying in Félix Asdrúbal and Kwabena Owusu for the goals, the latter is the top-scorer at the team with nine goals added to his tally before this meeting.

Solid display of a Fabril without cracks at the back zone facing a rival that pressed hard at the start of both halves, but later the Galician team lacked punch and didn’t seize any of the few opportunities created throughout the meeting.

The game started with a loss ball that Kwabena Owusu seized to complete a shot that was blocked by Álex Cobo (3’). That was an early warning, but in the end one of a few errors. Four minutes later, Santi Luque missed the target firing from the edge of the area. The first approximation of Fabril was a solo-play of Montiel that ended in an offside of Uxio (8’).

Fabril started to feel more comfortable on the pitch, at the middle of the half the game was equal and Montiel had the first shot for Depor’s lads, but he missed the target (16’). The playmaker was the more active player for the visiting side, at least in the first part.

Still, the game wasn’t having too many chances to score. The only attempt on target from the visiting side was a header of Fornos in a corner-kick that local goalie Dani Stores blocked (25’). And the only chance within the last ten minutes was a loss ball that allowed Víctor García to release a cross into the path of Uxío, but the striker was too slow and a defender cleared the ball before releasing the shot (38’).

The second half started with a shot of substitute Antonio Amaro that was blocked by Álex Cobo (46’). Owusu completed the second shot on target for his team, again it was saved by Cobo (54’). Both actions demonstrated that the locals were having a different approach, because in the first part they only completed one shot on target, while in nine minutes in the second part they already had two.

And the third attempt on target came at minute 56, a lateral free-kick ended with a header of Asdrúbal and Valín cleared the danger at the goal line. Luisito moved the bench and Guillermo May replaced Uxío Dapena. The modification didn’t improve the offence, but at least the harassment of Salmantino suffered in the previous minutes was over.

The second substitution at Fabril was the entry of Bicho for Montiel. The playmaker disappeared in the second half and Luisito was searching for a revulsive to attempt the victory. And Bicho had a clear chance to score as his direct free-kick was saved by Dani Stores and later Carlos López sent the loose ball out (74’).

With the game almost over, Luisito decided to replace Abeledo with Raúl González. And there was room for a polemic call too. A long throw from Álex Cobo ended with Victor García drilling the ball into the area, Uxío tried to control it when he was backwards the goal and was tackled, but not penalty call was made (85’).

Fabril wasted a good opportunity to continue dreaming with the salvation, it rescued a point visiting a direct rival and clinched back-to-back clean sheets, but it isn’t enough taking in mind the difficult situation at the standings. The arrival of Luisito improved the work in defence, but the team needs goals and victories. The next game is the visit of CD Guijuelo to Abegondo (Abegondo, Saturday, 16h30 CT).

Comments from Luisito: “We must go out to any field in order to win, because the margin is too little. A lot of liga still ahead, but truly not always you are able to reach a miracle. We must move forward, and I don’t think beyond Saturday’s game with Guijuelo. It’s useless to look at the standings, because the distance is too big.”

Salmantino: (4-2-3-1) Dani Sotres – Calero, Ricardo (José García 46’), Toño Vázquez, Víctor Mena – Sergio Molina, Jehu – Santi Luque (Amaro 46’), Manu Molina, Owusu (Martín Galván 84’) – Asdrúbal.
