MATCHDAY 29: ALMOST PERFECT FOR HOME TEAMS

13 Mar 2019
Seven of the ten visiting teams in this matchday were even unable to score a goal in their games, Deportivo and Málaga were the only local teams that lost.

If two matchdays ago the visiting teams prevailed, now they suffered a lot. The first seven games on this round saw how all the visiting teams were unable to score a single goal. Curiously only the last three games in the matchday saw the away teams not only scoring, but also adding points.

CA Osasuna was one of them, the Navarrans won at Málaga CF (1-2) and remain at the top; Granada CF also made a big step forward with a 1-0 win hosting Real Zaragoza. These two teams have now opened a gap for direct promotion as the second place is now six points away from the third place.

And all of this was possible as the other teams at the top failed. Albacete Balompié were surprised in their visit to relegation-troubled Gimnástic Tarragona (1-0), while Deportivo suffered its first home defeat facing UD Las Palmas (0-1). It cut a streak for the Galicians of seven straight games without losing.

Neither was a good matchday for Cádiz CF, the Andalusians were coming from four straight wins, but on Saturday they lost 1-0 at Elche CF. Meanwhile, RCD Mallorca are now only two points below the promotion zone after a 1-0 win over Real Oviedo, the Majorcans have chained four straight games without losing.

The situation at the top of the standings:

place team points GF GA
1 Osasuna 57 38 26
2 Granada 56 37 18
3 Albacete 50 36 23
4 Málaga 50 30 21
5 Deportivo 49 39 22
6 Cádiz 47 38 24
7 Mallorca 45 36 27
8 Oviedo 44 32 32

Things are starting to shack in relegation, Extremadura UD crushed Córdoba CF (3-0) and kept the 4-point difference with CD Lugo, side that rested during the weekend. CD Tenerife remain in that zone after been unable to defeat CD Numancia at home (1-1).

Meanwhile, Rayo Majadahonda claimed an important win over AD Alcorcón (2-0), the Madrilenians have won two of the last three games and are now six points above the pit. Then Sporting Gijón climbed to mid-table after a 1-0 win over UD Almeria.

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

place team points GF GA

19 Extremadura 27 33 40
20 Nástic 24 18 42
