New defeat for Fabril, but the lads played a solid game despite the relegation and deserved something more against a team fighting for the promotion.

Fabril arrived to the meeting already relegated.  Luisito decided to keep playing with the players of the team and not promote anyone from Juvenil A though captain Quique Fornos left the group at the beginning of the week in order to sign for promotion aspirant Racing de Ferrol.

Luisito decided that it was time to make experiments and presented a scheme with five defenders, Pedro López covered the goal, Jorge Valín played at the right side of the defence, Lucas Viña did it from the left, the centre-backs were Mujaid Sadick, Steve One and Raúl González. Javi Cobo and Iago Gandoy were the midfielders, then Víctor García, Jonathan Montiel and Ignacio Abeledo composed the trident in attack.

Contrary to the situation of Fabril, Real Madrid Castilla were indeed playing for something. The Madrilenians were fifth at the standings and needed the points to keep fighting in order to play the promotion playoff. Coach Manolo Díaz was relying in Cristo González in attack, the top-scorer with 16 goals in favour before this meeting.

Fabril were under pressure since the kick-off; the Galician lads weren’t making three straight passes and Castilla totally dominated the actions, though within the first ten minutes their only opportunity was a low shot by Dani Gómez blocked by Pedro López (9’).

But suddenly Fabril started to arrive. First the attempt of Montiel from the edge of the area, an insecure Luca Zidane was lucky as he tried to get the ball, but it slipped from his hands only to end at the roof of the net (12’). One minute later Víctor García wasted a good opportunity after been left alone against the keeper but he was too slow and a rival came from behind to clear the ball.

The game turned be attractive, Castilla needed the points and didn’t hesitate in attacking, while Fabril always found the cracks at the locals defence through the counterattack. At minute 22, Martín collected the ball at the edge of the area in a free-kick action and his low shot was deflected by Pedro López. Two minutes later Valin collected a drilled pass and fired from inside the area, but a rival blocked the attempt.

The defence was having a lot of problems dealing with Dani Gómez, Cristo and Alberto, but somehow the visitors were finding the way to clear the ball when the rival was entering the area.  But Fabril were more dangerous in attack, at minute 31, a strong shot of Montiel was barely deflected by Luca Zidane and the loose ball was found by Víctor García and he couldn’t define before the keeper.

At minute 36, Fidalgo picked a drilled pass inside the area and Mujaid saved the goal clearing the ball to corner-kick. At minute 42, a low cross from the left was missed by four Castilla’s players and this time One cleared the danger. In the resulting corner-kick Cristo attempted a shot that was blocked inside the box.

The second part started with the same dynamic, Fabril had a couple of approximations, but the first shot on target was for the locals through Cristo and Pedro López made the save (48’). And the locals were going to claim the lead. Martin released a corner-kick from the left, Dani Gómez found it at the box and released a shot before the arrival of Mujaid

Alberto had the chance to score the second, but he couldn’t connect the ball after a cross from the right. But Fabril didn’t surrender and Lucas Viña was close to tie the score, it was a counterattack in which Abeledo released a cross from the left and Viña released a strong shot cleared by Zidane over the crossbar (55’).

Abeledo and Montiel continued to give a lot of problems to the local defence. Castilla were searching for the second goal, but when they were losing the ball then Fabril felt comfortable in the counterattack, always led by Montiel and with the incursions of Abeledo on the left.

Meanwhile, Castilla were still having opportunities. Fidalgo was close to score at minute 71, he collected a cross from the right and ended heading the ball out. Fabril lost the brilliance of the previous minutes and Luisito made a double change. Salles-Lamonge and Gaizka Martínez replaced Javi Cobo and Raúl González.

Castilla had a clear to score at minute 77, De Frutos collected a drilling pass inside the area and his drilling attempt was repealed by Pedro López. The final substitution for Fabril was the entry of Guillermo May for Víctor García.

Fabril made a final push. Gaizka Martínez could have scored the equalizer, but his header in a corner-kick from the right just passed close to the far post (84’), and in the final minute of the added time Salles-Lamonge headed out a lateral free-kick (90+3’).

Fabril deserved something more, the lads pulled of pride and played a great game against a rival urged for the points. The lack of aim condemned a team that lost again in the road back to Tercera.  The next game is hosting Unionistas de Salamanca (Saturday, April 27, 17h00 CET)
