Only 22 goals were scored in a matchday that didn’t clarify the destiny of the second place, the playoff participants and neither of the relegation places.

It was a matchday with a few goals, only 22 were scored and 6 of them in only one game (4-2 win of CD Lugo over Almeria UD). Leaders CA Osasuna were held in their visit to AD Alcorcón (0-0), but the Navarrans could celebrate the promotion on next weekend.

Albacete Balompié lost a great opportunity to reach the second place after only getting a 0-0 draw in their home game with relegation-troubled CD Numancia, this after Granada CF got a 1-1 draw visiting Real Oviedo.

RCD Mallorca gave an important step in the quest for promotion and is now fighting for the second place with a 2-1 win over Sporting Gijón. It’s the third straight win for the Majorcans and they are now only four points below the second place.

Deportivo also lived a positive weekend, the Galicians added a new away victory, this time at Real Zaragoza (0-1) and returned into the playoff zone after Cádiz CF and Málaga CF drew 1-1, it was a good result for the Andalusians, but they are now seventh. Meanwhile, UD Almeria said good-bye to their promotion aspirations after losing at CD Lugo (4-2).

The situation at the top of the standings:

place team points GF GA
1 Osasuna 74 52 33
2 Granada 68 45 24
3 Albacete 65 48 30
4 Mallorca 64 50 33
5 Cádiz 61 51 32
6 Deportivo 60 46 30
7 Málaga 59 39 29
8 Oviedo 57 42 39

That victory at the Anxo Carro allows CD Lugo to only be one point below the safety, Rayo Majadahonda still in trouble after losing in their visit to Elche CF (2-1).  Córdoba CF added the points of the meeting with FC Reus, but their relegation could be mathematical this weekend, the same goes for Gimnástic Tarragona after losing against Extremadura UD (0-1).

The case of Extremadura UD is a pleasant surprise. The team was in relegation by matchday 31, but ex-Depor Manu Mosquera arrived to the bench and clinched five straight wins, including victories at La Rosaleda and the Riazor, now they are five points above the pit. Another team that gave an important step was CD Tenerife, side that won the Canarian derby with UD Las Palmas (2-1), now they are thee points above demotion.

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

place team points GF GA
17 Numancia 40 40 48
18 Tenerife 40 34 43
19 Lugo 37 37 48
20 Nástic 28 20 53
21 Córdoba 27 41 70
22 Reus 0 16 43

CA Osasuna could clinch the promotion to Primera, they will add the points of the game against FC Reus and their promotion will be mathematical if both Albacete Balompié and RCD Mallorca lose their games. Los Albinegros visit Rayo Majadahonda, while the Majorcans visit Gimnástic Tarragona.

Another thing that could be mathematical is the relegation of both Córdoba CF and Gimnástic Tarragona, if the Catalans lose against RCD Mallorca then they will be demoted. In the case of Córdoba CF, they will be relegated if they lose visiting UD Las Palmas and if both Rayo Majadahonda and CD Numancia win their games, the latter are hosting AD Alcorcón in this matchday.

There are other two very important games towards the promotion, Deportivo are hosting Cádiz CF, while Real Oviedo visit Málaga CF. The matchday is completed with other four games: Granada CF Vs. CD Tenerife; Sporting Gijón Vs. CD Lugo; Extremadura UD Vs. Real Zaragoza and UD Almería Vs. Elche CF.
