The end of the rope for Deportivo. The Galicians did nothing throughout the game and the Majorcans clinched a huge win that gives them a deserved promotion to the elite.

Coach José Luis Martí presented a 4-4-2 scheme as it was expected, but with some novelties. Nahuel Leiva was a starter and also Borja Valle, while Carlos Fernández started on the bench.

Dani Giménez was the goalkeeper, Eneko Bóveda covered the right side in defence, Saúl García> stayed on the left, Pablo Mari returned and joined Domingos Duarte at the central positions. Vicente Gómez and Edu Expósito were the centre midfielders, Pedro Sánchez attacked from the right wing, Nahuel did it from the left, then Quique González and Borja Valle were the centre forwards.

At RCD Mallorca, coach Vicente Moreno sought for skill and speed in attack, that’s why Ariday Cabrera was a starter attacking from the right flank. Salva Sevilla, Lago Junior and Ante Budimir were the other references in attack.

Bad first part by Deportivo. The Majorcans pressed and dominated the entire half and the Galicians never knew how to play with their anxiety. The locals scored a goal and had a couple of opportunities to tie the series.

The game started with RCD Mallorca pressing and giving problems on both wings, but the first approximation was for Depor. It was a lateral free-kick of Pedro Sánchez that found Borja Valle alone at the far post, but a defender came from behind and cleared the danger (8’).

The locals continued insisting, mainly on the left through Estupiñán and Lago Junior, but their attacks were ending in harmless crosses. Nahuel and Pedro Sánchez were brining aids at the sides and the Galicians lacked depth in attack.

And then came the goal of RCD Mallorca. Dani Rodriguez and Ante Budimir combined at the edge of the area and the striker scored firing from the edge of the area. That was the first shot on target for the Majorcans in this tie.

Deportivo started to suffer and Salva Sevillawas close to score in a direct free-kick saved by Dani Giménez (27’). The Majorcans had two straight corner-kicks, then Nahuel got injured and was replaced by Carlos Fernández

At minute 36, Dani Giménez blocked the low attempt of Lago Junior. That was the last chance for RCD Mallorca in the half, but things looked bad for Depor as they played at the edge barely completing three straight passes, so the locals had a very favourable half and only missed the second goal.

Depor continued to be a dead team and RCD Mallorca, without hurries, dominating the actions, scored a second goal and even a third to sentence the tie. Martí lasted too much with the modifications and the Galicians only created some danger when the game was decided.

Deportivo started the second part in the same way it played the first. The Galicians were erratic and missed the ball, while Vicente Moreno decided to risk putting Abdón Prats on the pitch. The Majorcans were having arrivals, but later they weren’t ending the plays properly or where ending in shots missing the target.

But then RCD Mallorca got a deserved second goal. A free-kick at the age of the area ended with a perfect attempt of Salva Sevilla that tied the series. The goal didn’t change the actions, because RCD Mallorca were still looking better, while Depor continued to play the same poor game.

Martí lasted in making the changes and Cartabia entered for Borja Valle. Before that, at minute 79, Depor had its first big chance in the game. Quique González collected a cross from Saúl and his attempt was saved by Reina (78’).

That was the first shot on target for Depor in this game. At this point the tie was heading to extra-time, but then a third goal came for the locals. It was a counterattack in which Baba assisted Abdón Prats, who scored with a strong shot from the edge of the area.

Eight minutes were remaining and Deportivo were now out of Primera. A desperate Martí ordered the entry of Caballo for Bóveda, and it was until then, when things were uphill, that the Galicians tied to push, and they had the big chance to revert the result in the added time, but Mari missed the target after a cross from Edu Expósito in a corner-kick action (90+3’).

The horrible planning of the second round has a big price to pay, Depor caressed the return to Primera División, but played a miserable game and wasted a two-goal lead. The team never worked in this game and Marti id nothing to change the outcome throughout the meeting. One more year in Segunda for Depor.
