Pedro Mosquera ended a four-year career at Depor after rescinding his contract. He had a solid first season and later struggled to find regularity.

The club announced on Friday that the contract of Pedro Mosquera has been rescinded. The midfielder was ending his link in 2021 and just hours before the announcement was made it was reported that SD Huesca was close to sign him. In case he signs for the Aragonians, then he will join Luisinho and Juan Carlos there.

This was an expected exit, because the Galician midfielder was one of the players with the higher wages at the first team and his disappointing season 2018/19 was pointing to this development. Still, the announcement was made quickly after the rumor of SD Huesca’s interest emerged; actually the press release of the club says that Deportivo made the decision and the player was informed at noon, just when he was resting after the first training session of the day. It invites to think that the club is paying the full wages of his pending years (2), though later Radio Cadena Ser reported that it was an agreement that benefits both parties.

He was one of the captains at the squad and thus closes a four-year stage at the club. Pedro Mosquera landed at Deportivo in July of 2015. He initially signed a four-year-deal after rescinding with Elche CF. The relegation of the Andalusians allowed the arrival of the A Coruña-born player, who had to forgive part of his unpaid wages in order to obtain his freedom.

His first season at the club was promising, he was the player with more minutes on the Primera season 2015/16 (3,288), and enlightened the road for a Deportivo that returned to have a brain at midfield. Unfortunately, his level decreased in the second part of the season and there wasn’t anyone else that could replace him. Valencia CF put their eyes on him, but Depor didn’t allow his exit.

But since then the midfielder was trapped in a career of ups and downs. For the season 2016/17, he scored a goal in the opening game against Eibar, but then his performance was deteriorated. Mosquera was mentally absent of the games, missing too many passes and therefore losing the ball in compromised positions. His pass ratio was only the eleventh best mark at Depor (80.6%). After the debacle against Sevilla (November 19) Gaizka Garitano lost the patience and Guilherme became a starter. Later during that same season, he returned to be a starter with Pepe Mel, but without shinning.

The Galician midfielder followed the path of the previous year during the campaign 2017/18, because he wasn’t a factor for Deportivo. He had enough games to demonstrate things (22), but it’s impossible to recall a single game in which he marked the difference. He never shone in defensive tasks and his best contribution in attack was to bring two assists.

He decided to stay with the team at Segunda, but only to witness his worst season at Depor. He begun the campaign as a normal starter for Natxo González, but subsequently lost the spot with Edu Expósito as his passing skills never improved. His 77% of pass accuracy wasn’t good enough and things got worse with the arrival of Martí. He played in the first two games with the new coach (at CA Osasuna and Vs. Extremadura UD), but later spent the last two months in the competition without having any minute.

Deportivo have now released five men that were under contract ahead of the new season. The first one was goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who was loaned to AC Omonia Nicosia. Later centre midfielder Edu Expósito and striker Quique González were transferred to SD Eibar. The previous man to leave was Juanfran Moreno, who rescinded his contract in order to sign for Turkish club Alanyaspor.
