THIRD WEEK IN THE PRE-SEASON

05 Aug 2019
The level of the rivals was raised during this week and the team is still battling against time in order to be ready for the start of the league. Three men missed the entire week due to injury reasons.

The third week in the pre-season of Deportivo was a copy of the second, because the first team completed the same number of training sessions (10) and also played two friendly games. And as it happened in the past two weeks, the work during the sessions consisted in mixing physical exercises with tactical work, all of this in order to have a fit squad and a team with a clear idea of how to translate the ideas of Juan Antonio Anquela into the pitch.

What changed is that Depor found a little more level in the friendly games; at midweek the Galicians met CD Tenerife (2-1) and Pontevedra CF (0-0), the first will be a rival at the new Liga SmartBank and later face SD Ponferradina (1-0), a newcomer to the league.

There was a bit of improvement compared to the friendly with Racing Ferrol, because the team had a better passing game and started to develop a 4-1-4-1 system (Anquela calls it 4-3-3). The good news is that the team showed spirit against CD Tenerife coming back from a 0-1 situation.

The bad is that it continues to miss too many scoring opportunities, like it happened against SD Ponferradina, match in which Borja Valle missed at least five scoring opportunities before scoring from the penalty spot. The general feeling is that the team needs mire time in order to assimilate the ideas of the coach

The number of players training with the team was decreased to 28, because Juanfran Moreno and Pedro Mosquera left the club, while no new signings were made. The best news is that Michele Somma has finally surpassed the hamstring injury suffered during the playoffs and will be ready for the start of the season. It was also good to see Dani Giménez and Fede Cartabia taking part of the friendly games.

Meanwhile, three men were unable to work during the week. David Simón remains out with a groin problem and Diego Rolan hasn’t surpassed the knock suffered at the end of last week. Christian Santos also missed the entire week after the Achilles injury suffered against Racing Ferrol.
