LAST WEEK IN THE PRE-SEASON

12 Aug 2019
Deportivo ended the last week in the pre-season with good news, firstly because of the progression shown in the Teresa Herrera, and secondly because it ended the stage with only one injury case.

The pre-season is over for Deportivo, it was a short stage of only four weeks in which coach Juan Antonio Anquela had to hurry the preparation of a team that has a new spinal cord. And it can be said that it was successful.

Because the coach found a team to start the league and because it showed signs of been progressing towards having a competitive team. The last week in the pre-season had nine training sessions and two friendly games, as always the coach mixed the physical preparation with tactical work, usually dividing the team in two groups, this in order to have a better control of what the players were doing.

The friendly games witnessed two 1-0 victories, one over Segunda B club Unionistas de Salamanca and the other over Real Betis playing for the Teresa Herrera. The first game was acceptable taking in mind that the major part of the meeting was faced with Fabril’s players.

And the one that brought the higher hopes was the game with Real Betis, because the Blanquiazul team showed freshness and because it was clear that the coach has found a starting team to begin the competition.

The other good news is that the team will begin the league competition with only one injury case. Anquela raised the number of player at the training camp to 29 with the arrival of left-back Luis Ruiz. Striker Christian Santos (Achilles) and right-back David Simón (groin) joined the group on this week and even had minutes in the friendly games.

Santos played both friendly matches on the week, while Simón had minutes in the second half of the Teresa Herrera. The only player that remains out, and that actually missed the full pre-season, is striker Diego Rolán. The club hasn’t clarified his issues and the player seems to be at the door out. Keeper Koke Vegas skipped the game with Real Betis after picking a knock, but should be available for the debut with Real Oviedo.
