Right-back Gerard Valentín will play loaned at CD Lugo; the Catalan has barely played with Depor and faces a second loan spell in the same club.

The club announced on Monday that Gerard Valentín will play loaned at CD Lugo for the season 2019/20. It was an expected exit as the Catalan right-back was considered as the third choice behind Eneko Bóveda and David Simón.

And it was been like that for Valentín since his arrival to Depor in 2017. Last season he was the third choice for the right side in defence and the most common picture was to see him out of the rosters. He played in the Copa game against Real Zaragoza and his only opportunity in liga came for the visit to Rayo Majadahonda (December 2).

In that match David Simón and Domingos Duarte were suspended, so Bóveda played as a centre-back and Valentín had the chance to perform on the right. Later he was loaned to CD Lugo, team where he had a solid performance.

At CD Lugo, the Catalan defender immediately jumped into the starting eleven and had 900 minutes at Segunda performing at the right side of the defence, but curiously CD Lugo were only able to win one of the thirteen games in which he showed up, and it was the game in which he scored a goal: 4-2 Vs. UD Almeria (May 5).

Deportivo have now released six men that were under contract ahead of the new season. The first one was goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who was loaned to AC Omonia Nicosia. Later centre midfielder Edu Expósito and striker Quique González were transferred to SD Eibar. Juanfran Moreno rescinded his contract in order to sign for Turkish club Alanyaspor, while Pedro Mosquera did the same to end at SD Huesca.
