Only four local teams won in the opening matchday; UD Almeria is the first leader; the Andalusians together with Depor and Cádiz CF were the sides that scored three goals.

Only one game ended scoreless in the initial matchday at Segunda División. And it was one of the two season openers as CD Lugo and Extremadura UD ended 0-0. The first leader in the tournament is Almeria UD, side that trashed Albacete Balompié at home (3-0).

Only other two teams were able to score three goals; Deportivo had a two-goal advantage against Real Oviedo and it was close to drop two points, but a late goal from Christian Santos gave them a 3-2 win at the Riazor. Meanwhile, Cádiz CF came from behind and beat SD Ponferradina (3-1).

The big surprise of the matchday was CF Fuenlabrada; the Madrilenians were debuting at Segunda División and clinched a 0-2 victory visiting Elche CF. It was one of the four away victories in this matchday (same number of home wins).

Málaga CF had problems to inscribe players and barely had a team for the matchday, but managed to defeat Racing Santander (0-1). AD Alcorcón also succeeded on the road as they beat CD Numancia (0-1), while recently demoted SD Huesca beat UD Las Palmas (0-1).

The other two clubs coming from Primera were unable to win their games despite been playing at home.  Rayo Vallecano could only get a 2-2 draw entertaining CD Mirandés, while Girona FC ended 1-1 with Sporting Gijón. The matchday was completed with a convincing 2-0 victory of Real Zaragoza over CD Tenerife.
