UD Almeria is the new leader at Segunda División after been one of the eight sides that didn’t lose in a busy week with three matchdays. Real Oviedo and Extremadura UD remain winless.

Busy week at Segunda División with three matchdays played in a frame of nine days. No one was able to win the three games, but the big winner is UD Almeria, side that’s the new leader after adding seven of the nine points in dispute. The Andalusians beat UD Las Palmas on the road (0-3) and Girona FC at home (3-1) and later rescued a point visiting Rayo Vallecano (1-1).

Cádiz CF is now second at the standings; after a perfect start with five straight wins, including a 2-0 victory over Girona FC, they were trashed at AD Alcorcón (3-0) and were unable to beat Deportivo at the Ramón de Carranza (0-0).

Real Zaragoza and Fuenlabrada CF were unable to play their game because the Madrilenians weren’t ready to play due to gastric problems affecting their squad. But both remain at the promotion zone, mainly because almost all the team at the top lost at least once.

Real Zaragoza beat Extremadura UD (3-1) and later were held by CD Lugo (0-0), while the Madrilenians lost for the first time on the season visiting CD Lugo (2-0) and later beat CD Tenerife on the road (0-1). Albacete Balompié had the weirdest week, they were humiliated at home by CD Tenerife (0-4), but later bounced back with victories over big rivals: 0-1 at SD Huesca and 1-0 Vs. Málaga CF.

Two of the three recently relegated cubs lived bad weeks, both SD Huesca and Girona FC lost twice. In the case of the Catalans, they suffered blows visiting Cádiz CF (2-0) and UD Almeria (3-1), and later they bounced back defeat UD Las Palmas (1-0). But they are only tenth at the standings.

The situation at the top of the standings:

place team points GF GA
1 Almeria 17 13 3
2 Cádiz 16 11 7
3 Zaragoza 14 10 2
4 Fuenlabrada 13 8 5
5 Huesca 12 6 4
6 Albacete 12 4 9
7 Alcorcón 11 12 10
8 Ponferradina 10 12 9

Deportivo were among the eight clubs that didn’t lose in the week, but they neither won after chaining three straight matchdays. The point at Sporting Gijón (1-1) was considered as positive, but later the 3-3 draw at the Riazor against CD Numancia put Anquela at the door out, mainly as Depor were winning 3-1 at minute 88. The point visiting Cádiz was positive, though the coach remains criticized.

Two teams remain winless in the league: Extremadura UD and Real Oviedo, and both are at the bottom of the standings. The Asturians are the first club to fire the coach. Sergio Egea was shown the door out after losing at home against Elche CF (0-2). Javier Rozada was promoted from the B squad, but only got a point precisely hosting Extremadura UD (1-1) and later lost at SD Ponferradina (2-1).

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

place team points GF GA
18 Deportivo 6 9 13
19 Las Palmas 6 4 8
20 Mirandés 6 8 14
21 Extremadura 3 4 9
22 Oviedo 2 7 13

Another busy week at Segunda with three matchday to be played in a frame of nine days. Matchday 08 promises to be intriguing. The first two places collide this matchday as UD Almeria entertain Cádiz CF, there’s also an interesting match between the two recently relegated clubs that had a tough week as Girona FC visit SD Huesca.  In the case of Depor, they need the three points in the home game with CD Mirandés.
